02 Sensor Wire repair. Part Back Ordered!

One of the pre cat 02 sensors on my car has been damaged. There’s maybe a 3/8-1/2 inch gap in between one side of the wire and the other. I don’t have enough play or room to twist them together and solder them finished off with some heat shrink tubing. So my question is can I buy some wire from the parts store to help bridge the gap and then do the above method? If so what size wire do I need?

I have a new 02 sensor on order with my dealer but they’re back ordered from Germany so I need something to get me by until then.

TIA

Since it isn't a thermocouple I would assume the wire isn't anything special (unless it is shielded).

It’s the grey wire that’s damaged.
