200 cell dps and CEL

Heyo,

Anyone know if 200 cell downpipes will cause CEL? I just saw MAD's new catted downpipes launching in December. Was originally looking at AA's 400 cell GESI downpipes.

Thanks!

The 200 CEL is not the main factor in the CEL. It's the quality of the cats used.

The MAD downpipes, similar to most catted downpipes on the market, will eventually trigger the check engine light.

The Active Autowerke does not because it uses EPA-approved GESI cats.

I believe they are using a o2 spacer to achieve this and has nothing to do with the Cats themselves.

You could easy install them on either of our catless or catted versions and get the same no cel result.

Look for brands that use quality HJS cats when it comes to 200 cell cats. Redstar uses them but most don't because they cost more. If the brand doesn't list their 200 cell cats as HJS then you can assume they are using a cheaper low quality one which is more likely to cause a CEL.

Yep, I know Fabspeed uses HJS cats. If I'm paying that much I'd rather go for 400 cell from AA though. Catless is way too loud for me haha.

Check out RedStar exhaust downpipes from counterspacegarage.com. You can get a 400 cell GESI Gen 2 catted downpipe with heat shielding for $300 less than the AA. About $700 less if you don't option the heat shielding. Orders are custom made so expect about a 2-3 week lead time.

200 cell is just not enough to stop a check engine light regardless of the quality or brand.

The purpose of the 200 cell is max air flow along with the reduction of smell and sound.

Yes, but they use the older version of GESI cats.

Active used the same cats on their B58 and N55; a year later, most of them triggered the check engine light. Active replaced all the downpipes for free, and they switched to the newer GESI cats.
