So I was getting low on gas but I had to be somewhere today and couldn't stop. I said to myself I'll stop after I leave downtown. I left downtown and had about 22mi till empty I only needed to go about 8-10mi and I'd be at the station I wanted. I feel like if it was my F80 I could made it home which is 15miles.

So I'm still not super familiar with my G80 and how it gulps gas. Three miles into the drive after leaving downtown the cars go to 13mi to E and the car goes into a fuel save/limp mode and has the power of a very small naturally aspirated 4cyl the mileage goes back up to 17mi till empty but I start climbing a hill and it goes back to 12mi to empty. Lets just say I ended up at my station with 5mi till empty. I learned a new feature I didn't want too because I didn't expect the fuel to suck down the way it did it's alot different than my F80.

Edit-15mi till empty is when the car goes into reduced power mode until its filled back up. I decided to give it a second try foe fun.

How many gallons were you able to put in?

I'm guessing during reliability testing they had issues with fuel starvation at extremely low fuel levels and didn't want to risk engine damage by the consumer.

Yea that was probably part of it.

The 2,600mi I've driven so far is 50-75% hwy and I average about 16mpg. I gotta say the last 1/4 tank seems very unpredictable so I'm sure that also was some of the reason they did reduced power for fuel.

Honestly I used to fill my f80 up once every 7days and now its like every 4days and that last 1/4 tank goes super fast in this new car so I wont ever go below a 1/4 again

I was trying to figure out how many gallons you still had in the tank. So that when that happens to me I have an idea whether the car is exaggerating or being accurate.

Are you driving around with the car in Sport, or Sport+? I went on a road trip, for a BMW get together, 2 weekends ago, and I went with a guy with an F80. He made it down to the meeting spot, and he had to get gas.

We stopped in 2 places, the first spot was 75 miles from our meeting point, the second spot, was 51 miles past that. He peeled off the pack, and got gas about 10 minutes before we got to that last 51 mile meeting spot.

He's telling me, over the walkie talkie, he was on the gas light, but was full when we left, the original morning meeting spot. So, he drove less than 125 miles.

Now, we were doing some pulls on the trip, and closer to the last 51 mile spot, there were alot of hills, we were in the Santa Cruz mountains.

I got to that spot, about 125 from our original meeting spot, driving just like him, and my fuel needle, was hovering over the half a tank, mark, but wasn't quite touching it. I finished the trip, drove out of the mountains, and all the way home, more pulls, ran into an IS500 and an RS6 Avant, driving the other 125 miles, back, and I got back with 36 miles left on the tank. Mixed driving, as my M1 button is Sport Plus motor, Sport suspension, and brakes and steering are both in sport. 70% in Efficient, all, in 8th gear.

So I figured the car would be at 0 when I pulled into the gas station so when I got to the top of the hill on the freeway I put the car in Neutral and got it to go from 6mi to empty to 18 when I took the picture at the pump. This is what it held so I think I had between .5-.8 gal in my tank still

How fast are you going on the highway, 80+ I see those numbers but when I back it down to 72 I get 26ish.

I do always drive in sport+ both buttons are set for sport plus throttle sport plus brakes 3Trans my m1 is soft suspension and soft steering and m2 is sport+ suspension and sport steering.

I feel like it went into gas saver mode at 20-25mi till empty but i wasn't paying close enough attention to that. I just know gas saver mode is worse than comfort/economy the car was slow a like a Corolla or a smart car 😂

So yes I'm constantly around 80-95mph cruising since most of my commutes are opposite of traffic on the freeway. But when my car was drinking her gas yesterday it was downtown on the freeway in traffic that was 25-30mph

Wow, that's got to be a record for how close you can get to empty!

The tank is rated at 15.6gal capacity; so yeah, you were on "Bingo Fuel" or aka, running on fumes.

Reminds me of the Seinfeld episode when Kramer is driving this car with the car salesman and they're trying to see how far it'll go before running empty

I'm glad to hear that our vehicles have that type of safety feature that will get your attention before really running out of fuel.

Never mind all this fuel talk, I'm more interested in how all this went.

The IS500 had temp tags on it, so, maybe he wasn't getting on it, but if you're doing over XXX, you're on it. That was no problem, I also caught the RS6 pretty easily. I don't think he knew what he was up against. He flew around me, like I was a punk, and I pulled out of the lane I was in, to get behind him, and in about 3-4 second, I was pushing him along.
