Reverse to Drive Shifting Issue

I have a new 2024 M4 Convertible and I've noticed most times when I shift from Reverse to Drive the car DOES NOT actually go into "drive" (first gear). I have to move the shifter left and right to get it to engage in gear.

Is this common? A known issue? fixes?

Thanks in advance...

You sure you're holding the brake enough for it to recognize it's being held for the shift?

I don't think I've ever had a problem with it not recognizing the lever is being moved. Make sure you're moving it I guess..."enough" over to the right for it to recognize a shift.

I'm pretty sure I hold the break long enough. I go thru the shifting motion and then when I switch to give it gas, the engine revs because its in neutral and not gear.

In fairness, I am going thru the shift motion fairly quickly. Almost feels like the "drive-by-wire" is delayed and wanting me to be more deliberate and hold the shift longer.

I never had this kind of issue with my 2015 M4 convertible.

Its all computer bs... Like any other computer, disconnect the power for 10 minutes and see if it fixes it.

Under the trunk floor, you'll find the battery. You'll need a 10mm socket to remove the terminal. Do not accidentally close the trunk after disconnected the battery. I usually toss a big towel over the lower mechanism just incase I forget and slam it.
