Rationale

What’s the rationale for debadging your car? Asking for a friend!!

Depends on the car and the badging. Some I do, some I don't.

I'd get rid of the silly looking x-Drive badge if mine had it.

I used to own a GTR. Fantastic car. A fair amount of owners would de-badge the Nissan only badges. They claimed it was a cleaner look. Of course they almost never removed the GTR badges.

They didn’t want to accept they were driving a Nissan. The GTR is an extreme example of a boring, entry level car company that did make one pretty exceptional vehicle (especially before it got outdated)

Microfiber cloths don’t catch on the badges 😉

I’ve debaged a few cars like my 2011 CTS-V but I was doing the “Murdered out” look. No intrest in debadging my M4.

Some people will debadge as they think people will think it’s just a regular 3 or 4 series so they can “race” them and embarrass them. Kinda juvenile but to each his own.

When I see a debadged car I just assume it’s had a cheap repaint.

Agree. Less is almost always better. Fortunately the M3 is fairly light on badges so none were removed.

Looks better without the badges imo. I’d have removed mine if I thought I was keeping it forever, but the fear of having to line shit up again when I want to sell has left me a badge boi

I think it all started with the Civic boys back in the day who had the DX but tried to hide it and make people think they had the Si 😂

Is it considered insane to take the M3 Competition and all the M badging off the exterior?

Or does it possibly make your penis bigger to not have to show the world you have the “best” 3 series (with cup holders)?

Or am I the same person either way? I wonder how much a badge can change who I am 🤔

I think that if it comes down to worrying about how many badges your car has on it (and removing them) you really need to get a hobby. I think that's pretty much on the level as painting over the side reflectors.

Not at all. Has been going on since the 80’s in Europe where people with expensive cars didn’t want to attract attention and would debadge so that people wouldn’t know they had the hot one.

I personally do not like any badging on the paint. I took the XDrive and M3 Competition off my trunk lid. The side badging and front badging are on carbon fiber in my case and those will stay. I don't give a rat's ass if someone doesn't know what the car is.

Debadging is common in Germany as drivers don’t feel the need to advertise their model.

When I was a young lad, I debadged my A4. Sure, it was a cleaner look, but deep down I knew the A4 badge didn't do anything to enhance the look of the car more than removing it. If I had an S4, I wouldn't have debadged it. So I think we all know why I personally did it.

Some people debadge M3s and S4s etc and they have their reasons, but that's the exception rather than the rule imho. Ultimately, the majority of us are vain people. It's human nature.

Maybe it's OCD, but I just really prefer symmetry when it comes to just about everything. So any badging that is only one side I always remove. Also just cleaner look.

Nobody who cares is going to mistake a G80 M3 for a regular 3 series.

Personally, I would remove the X-drive badge from the car IF I ever purchased anything other than a RWD/MT. IMO, it is a lame looking badge that adds nothing to the look of the car. The rear M3/4 badges on the other hand, to my eyes, look amazing --- simple, colorful, tasteful... perfect.

Also, while on the badge topic, I much prefer the way BMW identified a 'competition' model in the F8x series as compared with the 'COMPETITION' label they throw on the G8x badge. For those unfamiliar, a non-competition build in the F8x line got a chrome badge while the competition got the black badge ---- they kept that part the same for the G8x, but added "Competition" to the black badge --- I thought/think it looks better without it (i.e. a competition model should just have a black badge with no 'competition' nameplate.

Just my $0.02 FWIW

We left our ugly Nissan badge on so when I’m walking away from someone, they always know it’s a “Shtty” Nissan
