Having owned a number of M cars, (e39,e46,e93,f80), I have to say a few things about this new G80 comp X. First, it reminds me most of the e39 for some strange reason - maybe it's the size or the way it delivers power. Second, this might be the most comfortable M3 ever. Third, the fake growl noises that sound like a W212 AMG upon start up and at low RPM shifting are interesting, but if you turn that off the engine sounds like the E46 in some ways. I remember being able to feel the cylinders firing in the pedal back in those days. The awful interior sound of the engine in the F80 if gone - thankfully - along with the low hum noise at speed, even with the pipe volume on. The space - wow. Huge inside. But somehow the width feels about the same as the F80 (5 inches longer). The iDrive8 - buttons are missed, but not forgotten - it's great. Immersive and modern. Having so much configuration isn't as much a problem for me with two M buttons. The e93 was so difficult to configure. As for exterior design, I've compared all my photos and this looks amazing in comparison, so much hate for the grill but there's something to be said for its uniqueness and those sharp lines, flared fenders, and classic rear end. The thinner steering wheel is universally appreciated, but I have mixed feelings. Anyway, I'll circle back after the break-in period, but color me impressed with the formula they've used for power delivery, sound, comfort, space, design, and finishes. Well done, BMW M!

Throw in an e36M3 and we have the same pedigree in M experience. I couldn’t agree more with your assessment. Spot on. I do miss the steering wheel and sport + steering setting of my CS tho.

I know my G80 M3 base 6-sp is larger and heavier than my F80 was, yet I remember being bothered by the size of the F80 and the G80 feels just fine to me despite the increases.

Do you find you get the power down better? My F80 6 speed was frustrating off the line.

Thank you. Please compare road/tire noise and suspension comfort when in the comfort setting. I'm in an M2C now and both of these issues are wearing on me.

My F80 was a DCT and I sold it something like a year before getting the G80 so I'm a little fuzzy on the details. And I've never really gotten on the G80, either -- at 4,000 miles I'm still taking it easy.

Suspension in comfort is extremely compliant, speed bumps that killed me in my M-sport suspension (non adaptive) 4 series I now float over with no issue.

I have serious back problems and this is closer to my X5 w/air than an M sport - hugely helpful to my overall situation!

As far as road noise, I don't know yet but it seems quiet unless I'm on rough pavement. I have P zeros unfortunately but someone told me they are quieter than the Michelins.

Congratulations OP; where the damn pictures 🤓

I'm G80 Pure 6MT and it puts the power down fantastic. Had an F80 6MT.

More importantly this G80 has PHENOMENAL poise on the road… It's next level confidence inspiring.

And yes very comfortable… I've done a few 4 and 6 hour road trips family on board.

Car is fantastic

I came from an F87 (not competition), and the G80 is much more refined and comfortable when not in sport modes, and the cabin is quieter.

I got the Michelins with mine, but tire noise is nowhere near as much as the F87, also with Michelins.

I loved my M2, but it was a little too hardcore at times for some of my passengers, particularly the suspension tuning.

The G80 has a broader range between comfort and full sport modes.

KANdaddy Sorry, off topic but your PM box is full. I'm looking to pick up your old CS and I just had a few questions about the car. Any help would be greatly appreciated! Please PM me when you get a moment. Thank you!

After driving for a week, I can provide a little more insight. The M adaptive in comfort will ease your pain for sure, but one interesting thing is how the chassis communicates road texture. That may be the case on yours (I haven't had the pleasure of driving an M2C). It's not a problem, but if you're on rough pavement it is noisy. And if you hit bumps they're absorbed for that most part but it's not as smooth as, say, a Mercedes.

Thanks. My M2C is always jarring and always loud. The G8x sounds like an improvement which is not surprising as the M2 was designed to be more hardcore.

The interior is a cozy wonderful place to be

regarding putting power down I find the 6 MT to be a creampuff for engagement

I am about to be 2 weeks in and absolutely love it except from the brakes screeching, ridiculous for a $90k car.

Brake noise because race car ; has nothing to do with how expensive is the car
