That statement has something for both sides. Those that believe the G8x is more M5 than M3 will have their confirmation bias satisfied. However the word "small" is the inverse of big so people on the other side of the fence can take solace that the G8x is a smaller version of a very good car. The world is a better place when we are all happy.

Where did you hear that it feels like a bigger M2? Just about every review I've seen mention that it feels like a smaller M5.

Let's not jump to any conclusion folks because "M5" is rather ambiguous. When I hear M5 I think E39 M5. Never really cared for the others that followed, E60 was memorable because V10 but never got me excited like the E39 M5 and to this day I get warm and fuzzy when I see one.

We all predicted it would happen is my point lol. Someone was gonna say it. I'm good man, I'm of course not thrilled with the weight and size gain but I'm thrilled with the 6MT and the initial reviews.

Hmmm... is it a blessing or a curse? Depends on preference. I could certainly live with a smaller M5. |

Reviews help people refine their interests ahead of viewing a car (or if they see a real red flag they skip it all together). Its information even if it isn't the gold standard of a test drive, which I think we all recommend. Strangely we live in a world in which some small percentage of people buy cars without ever sitting in them (carvana etc), though I wouldn't recommend that nor can I really fathom it. That percentage seems to be growing and growing. |

A smaller m5 just means its not the "m3" the hardcore enthusiasts grew up on (e36, e46, e92) - the f80 already started the deviation from it with its increasing size and the fact that the m3 was now was a 4 door sedan while the coupe was renamed to the m4.
a smaller m5 is not a bad thing if what you want is a grand touring car with track capabilities. The m5 while a great car on its own right its not something I would envision driving, I want something a little more raw for my "fun" cars, so when reviewers say the g80 m3 is more like a baby m5 it adds to the idea that its not as raw as its predecessors. ive had alot of fun watching all the reviews - its a good car with a monster of an engine. For me, if I wanted a 1/4 mile, highway beast that will easily be a 10 sec car with some minor modifications and tune - the g80 m3/m4 is the best thing you can buy for that price range. I just don't like the idea of having to go so fast and breaking so many laws to have a little bit of fun, so a smaller car fits the bill. That said, I most definitely envy all the fancy tech and incredible interior the g80 possesses. I can't wait to see what the LCI looks like and what these cars are going to look like tastefully modded on the streets. The grill is fine by me at this point!

In my opinion the current G series car knocked it out of the park in driving dynamics etc. but the F series still has the better styling. Choose your poison. If you like the G series styling than you hit the jackpot.

Agree. I think BMW exterior design peaked at the F series in terms of M cars

This and similar videos will generate a broad spectrum of opinions. The larger question: is the new G80 worth buying? Absolutely.

I believe the comparison was made about the small M5 due to the gearbox. If he had the manual or if it was a dct I don't think he would of thought that. Depending on what your priorities are the smaller M5 is not negative comparison. Especially if it's going to be a daily which I'll welcome a more predictable M3/4 especially is the only complaint is that the shifts don't feel like your getting donkey kicked
