G80 M3 wing idea's.
Hello guys,
I'm looking for a track oriented racing wing for my G80. I found this one from team schirmer but I am wondering if there are more options. I just think the carbon Mperformance wing will not really do anything. https://www.teamschirmerparts.com/pr...pr_seq=uniform |

Having read up on the topic, front and rear wings should be balanced: air dam in the front to add more downforce (and likely decrease MPG by increasing the air piling up in front), with the wing in the rear to provide downforce (and probably increase MPG by reducing the vacuum). I'm not sure what value the front air flicks, side winglets and rear winglets do. Perhaps keep the air tucked around the tire turbulence. But obviously, the G8x platform can cruise just fine at 150 mph on the autobahn without needing more downforce. We've seen high speed track days of these cars with just the stock aero, which does have a smaller air dam in the front and trunk spoiler in the rear - these do add downforce. So, I don't know. |

I’m in the same boat OP. M Performance wing likely does nothing or nearly nothing for downforce and is purely aesthetic. If it did, I’m sure BMW’s ///Marketing would’ve been all over it. Same applies for their “aero flicks”. I’ll be running a wing next year for track days so I’m doing some research now. Just remember to balance the aero up front too.
Here’s what I have currently for wings for the G80: APR GTC wings - used by several cars I’ve seen on Instagram. APR is well respected so it’s a clear choice. Looks like the GTC250 variants are on the cars but their site is showing 200 and 300 so I’ll eventually inquire: https://aprperformance.com/racing-pr...ustable-wings/ Team Schirmer: less aggressive option given the size, but I’m sure it’s more functional than the M performance variant. They have confirmed that this wing will fit a G80 and have racing history/pedigree with their name: https://www.teamschirmerparts.com/co...-g80-g82-m3-m4 Aero Dynamics: German company with a wing on an M4 that seems like it’ll fit the M3 but I haven’t learned too much about them given their instagram is entirely German. At this point I’m set on a GTC200/300 and AC Schnizter’s canards for track next year. I’m open to options too if anyone else has any!

Unless you have a wind tunnel or your name is Adrian Newey I doubt any of these wings will do much in terms of adding usable downforce on these cars.

Most tracks I run in CA have these sections and you only need to be going 90+ to benefit from it, adding to prior car made a noticeable difference at Buttonwillow, Auto Club Speedway, Sonoma and Willow Springs. On the street it is basically useless. |
