Rooftop Tent?

Been thinking about throwing a rooftop tent onto my g82. Does having a cf roof affect the amount of weight that can sit on the roof rails?

I've seen people adding cargo boxes to the rails on the g8x but no tents, anyone done it?

It should have come with it from the beginning. That’s why it sits like a Jeep from factory. Lol

Think you bought the wrong vehicle. I'd trade my tacoma Pro if interested!

Edit, just buy a cheap truck, here's my setup with a bed tent.

Buying a taco trd pro has been considered but at this point, i'm waiting for the '24 models to be released or even the land cruiser.

I've been babying the miles on the g82 since i bought it and now wanna switch it by driving it cross country. Maybe a lift kit? What?

You've got some options; only thing concerning to me with the m3/4 being used as an all in one vehicle is it will get scratched, scuffed, dirty etc. and considering the price of them it won't be cheap to repair over using an older suv or truck. Keeps the bmw special when you drive it over the camping/offroad vehicle.

If you're taking it off road, I'd put the skid plate on.

Yea, it has the turner oil cooler skid plate already, would need to look into other points that need protection. It has PPF on the front but not sure how much protection that adds against offroading. I see this being a slow start to eventually not caring about scratches. There is the idea of getting it wrapped for further protection, need to research different options there. Pretty hellbent on this over a pickup, as long as the cf roof can support a tent with me inside it.

So for those that know. How is the max roof weight calculated? The documentation I've found states that our max roof weight is 75kg. Is that with roof rails or do those add to the max weight. Thule racks are at 100kg max. Anyone got a simple explanation. I understand there being a difference between static and dynamic weight maxes but no one lists clearly what is possible. Thanks!
