Car Transport Recommendations

HI all, I am sure there are a ton of people in here that have good experiences with car transportation companies. I have just completed the purchase of a 2023 g80 and I need some recommendations for some transpiration companies to contact for estimates from Michigan to Orlando FL. Thanks in advance for any assistance here.

Intercity Lines did a great job transporting an e39 m5 for me from south Florida to AZ, but you'll pay for the privilege.

If you do find a company try to opt for covered rather than uncovered transportation. It would be a little extra but I would do it for peace of mind.

Fisher shipped my G80 across the country (MD to CA) back in 2021. I’d say communication was ok but I also proactively called every few days for updates. The car did arrive a day earlier than expected. That’s where the good things ended.

The customer rep sent the wrong destination address to their driver. Good thing I caught it very early.

A deep prominent pen mark appeared on the side bolster of the bucket seat, presumably while in someone’s pocket as they were getting in/out, but I can’t prove it was from the transporter and not the dealer. However it was not there in photos that the dealer sent me. Luckily my detailer was able to erase it completely.

The driver dropped it off at my detailer but did not provide a Bill of Lading to be signed.

If I were to do it again, I’d try a different company and pay more for covered transport.

RunBuggy is like the Uber of auto shipping. They can do open or closed carriers. Check them out and see if they are competitive on price.

Last three cars I’ve had delivered, the broker used montway to set up transportation. All three experiences went as planned and really well. Montway is a brokerage of sorts itself it appears, where they outsource the actual shipping to one of many ‘approved’ transporters. YMMV. Not that it would have any bearing on your/their success in this case, but I’m in Orlando as well.

I very much agree with this. I just shipped my G82 from AZ to VA and I am very happy I went with covered. It's close to double the cost, if I recall, but certainly worth it, especially if you don't have PPF yet installed.

As others have alluded, most of these companies are actually brokers who have approved transport vendors. I have a friend in the business and one thing he mentioned is that if your broker goes too low, it may delay finding a vendor willing to transport the vehicle, especially for cross-country trips.

Keep that in mind as your comparing prices.

If you are going to have enclosed transport I was very happy with these guys.

I will be using a transport service soon and have been seeing a lot of open carriers on highways - it seems to me that it provides good protection of the cars, what am I missing? My trip is from NYC to Chicago and enclosed is about double the price……

Noob here, never used a transport service before, always pickled up my car because it is FUN!

You are not missing anything. During the transport, a DD car isn’t exposed to anything it won’t be exposed to when driving. Enclosed keeps the car clean and has less risk of any damage but open carrier should not result in any damage either.

Personal choice but the only car I’ve shipped enclosed was a fully restored ‘68 Mustang Fastback.

Yes, I have scheduled a pick up for the 13th. I ended up using Sherpa Auto transport. $1179 from Detroit area to Orlando Florida enclosed. I will give an update as to how everything went post delivery.

That seems really cheap. I wouldn’t drive the car that far for twice that let alone pay for a truck, liability, fuel, etc. How much money can they possibly be making off that transaction?

I agree with everything you stated. Just to give everyone some additional information. I had 7 companies bid it. Lowest was bid was $900 and highest was $1500. 3 companies came in at the $1200 mark.

Quotes I got for about 1000 miles were all around that number. Some were just below $1000, some were $1500.

Seems about right to me.

Think about that these companies probably take multiple cars per trip and organize them to have multiple deliveries in a single "straight" line, so they're taking $7-10k worth of car transports but paying the equivalent of a single trip of fuel and wear.

I've used intercity and horseless carriage, from what i know they're related, i think i heard one does west coast and the other east coast, but i believe the owners are family. anyhow i know they both are factory carriers for porsche and mclaren. not the cheapest but they're very very careful and haul exotics mainly. so i trust them. i paid 3500 from california to virginia.
