Subwoofer Options for G80
I've done the full Alpha One speaker upgrade along with the Alpha One amp and spent time with the technician to get a nice DSP file set up and I have to say the sound is much better than the stock Harmon Kardon now.
I still do find that a tasteful sub to just support and broaden out the lower more powerful bass notes would be a perfect finish out to the system. I did some searching and didn't see any sort of solution available for us other than a small handful of people who found some local shops to do a custom box or some kind. Ideally I'd like to find something that fits into the side wheel well area of the trunk. Does anyone have any knowledge in this area?

In past BMW’s that I have owned, sedans, coupes, a SUV’s; I have gone with JL subs and PPI amps. I have had everything for single 8” to 3 12’s in a suv. Granted the 3 12’s performed better than most clubs. Unless you are looking to spend a shit ton of money upgrading mods, highs, sub etc with quality amps speakers; I’d suggest an 8” quality sub in a sealed box with a quality amp to power it. Much like performance mods, once to start, your pocket book is the limit.

Note: All its in the attached link including pics and different opinions. I do think the sound of this sub is very good and quality as expected for JL Audio. I don’t have the specs, honestly I don’t know much of this subject but go to the JL Audio web page-> subs -> microsubs+ (+ means integrated amp). I was thinking of doing the 12’’ but decided to continue with the 10’’ as was the one I have used before. Also google technicpnp; which is a company that sells a connection to add subs to the OEM amp. Hope this helps |
