iDrive always tells me my tires are low...very annoying

Hello,

What temperatures do you all keep your tires at?

I keep mine at about 36psi rear, and 33psi front.

The door placard says "32psi front and 35psi rear", but the car ALWAYS tells me to "check my tire pressures" every time I get in...

It's really annoying. Maybe the door placard is wrong.

FYI: 2024 M3 Comp xDrive.

Thanks guys!

Did you swap to All Seasons or winters?

I had to set mine to <100mph, then it went away.

No I haven't switched tires. Only 3k miles on the car.

So the same thing happened to you?

Do you think there is any downside to having the setting set to <100mph...? Perhaps the car will limit speed or power?

No it won’t. It maybe you have set over 100mph in which case the door badge should tell you the increased pressure to use. There should be two different values per tyre type.

In uk we just have one pressure- well two … loaded and unloaded.

Why are you guys running such low pressures? 38PSI min on these cars with low profile and XL rated tires.

See the highlighted portion in this image.

That's my door sill.

Thoughts...? Super odd, those numbers seem way too low tbh.

Here’s UK version. Default summer < 100 mph and partial load is 33.5psi or 2.3 bar

Just follow those pressures, you'll be fine.

Ironically I had this same discussion with a friend yesterday that’s got an S Plaid with huge ass aftermarket wheels running some rubberband 30 and 25 sidewall tires and he was goofy running 32 in all of them. Here’s the thing. For anyone who’s running good summer grippy/sporty tires, STOP running the bullshit 32 PSI old school standard of pressures when balancing a tire. If you got a comfy ass non-performance car and want to run 32, fine… run 32. If you’ve got what you guys on this forum have, then go up to at minimum 36 or 38. Generally it’s user preference based on driving style and also what you observe in term of tire wear, sidewall rollover wear when pushing the car, etc. With any pressure you run, if you drive normal, you’re looking at maybe 2-3 PSI pressure increase from cold to hot on the street. So, my suggestion would be put in 36 both front and back and see how the comfort and handling is after you’re warmed up. You’ll probably see the pressure go to up maybe 38. For 35 and 30 sidewall tires, you need to be at slightly higher pressure than bullshit all season 50 sidewall ratio 32PSI pressures. Tire wear will also be somewhat improved as long as you’re not overinflated and that won’t happen unless you push mid-high 40’s. As I said, take it out at 36 and test it and take some corners and then check your rollover. If you’re seeing any wear at the outer edge of your tread pattern, bump them up 2PSI and go with that. You bought a performance sports car… if you’re lowering pressures on your tires to gain comfort on the road, your priorities are off. I dunno what to tell you then… 🤷*♂️

Thanks man. I actually was lowering the pressures in order to play around with what I felt was optimal grip.

When I do launch control (I have AWD btw) it felt like the tires couldn't grip... I figured they may have been overinflated as I was running them all around 40PSI.

Also, when I would turn into a 90degree corner sharply, it felt like the tires were skidding along the pavement instead of really gripping it.

This made me feel as if the tires were over inflated and not able to conform to the road in order to provide optimal grip.

At 40PSI, yes, it may be a little twitchy in turns, depending on tires. Michelins will usually do this. If you want traction for takeoff and in turns as well as quick handling at higher speeds, stick with 36PSI. I mean, look, you can run 32 or 30 if you’re looking for ultimate grip for flat out launches, you can, but how much do you launch on the street vs other drive needs to run those super low pressures? Again, only you can make that call, but tire type and sidewall stiffness will play a bigger roll in the handing issues you’re talking about more so than pressures. If you’re running Michelins, the soft sidewalls will make them squirmy no matter the pressure in my opinion and if you run them too low, you’ll roll over the sidewall even more and chunk them even easier.
