He said that he knows from his friends from Dingolfing factory what is going on. The reason for this long QC procedure is that in October-November-December of 2021 there was not enough Central Displays for cars, even they removed a touch screen. This applies to all g20, g22, g80, g82 and other models with same display. But they decided not to stop the whole production but just to produce them without those central displays and store them at the parking. Now, displays started to arrive but not as much to fix all of them at one time. The thing is that for instance if Bmw should produce 100 cars per day, only like 110-120 displays arrives daily. They produce 100 new cars and put the rest 10-20 displays to the ones that are in QC waiting for them. Thats why you see cars that are produced after yours and that are not waiting for parts. Friend said that situation is very sad and those guys in QC without central displays can wait 3-4 months more if situation does not change. I am going to call my dealer tomorrow and say a lot of bad words to them even though they are not to blame. This approach is unacceptable. Going to buy new Mercedes. F** you, BMW
Does that mean we are all getting a touch screen deletion?

My car was finished October 10. Been sitting at port in Germany waiting for the ram module ever since . At least there's no snow there now. 🤷🏾*♂️

From my point of view, some cars now are getting touch screen deletions. If we're waiting for the screens(CID), doesn't that mean we might be getting one of the newer, touchless screens?

Edit: Looks like I may be wrong. The touch screen deletions are not currently affecting M models.

Yes. It costs money to prep and move newly produced cars coming off the factory line into storage. So it's more cost effective to just outfit those cars with the CIDs they have in hand with any extra CIDs going to the cars already in storage, than to do a first-in-first-out system. This is also why bmw is not giving us an explanation because they know we won't like it.

This is exactly what's going on. Maybe they get a couple extra CIDs one day, and that's why you see people posting that they're out of QC. And then we'll all have to face the stop sales when the cars get to VDC, and that'll be another couple weeks. We'll be lucky to see our cars by April.

April sounds about right. I stopped by my dealer yesterday and had the Sales Manager tell me that the G80 is 3 months out. Didn't acknowledge QC, why it's delayed, what's going on, etc. but would only say the car is 3 months out.

Went to the dealer today.
Status 150 from 11/18 and went to 155 on 1/10. Today still in 155. No movement. Buildweek 46.

Boy, this is disheartening. Have you also been in QC since early November? My dealer has not told me about a 3 month longer delay.

Yup - went into QC on November 19 with zero movement / updates since then.

Anybody see any movement? Once I got out of QC this week I’m moving quickly. Now at the port awaiting a ship. Forgot to mention, I have no recalls so it would appear that holding us at the factory removes potential for recalls, fingers crossed.

This is the text I got from my CA after bugging him since Late Nov about my M4 being stuck in QC -

Any vehicles that remains in status 155 for a period of time is a vehicle the factory cannot complete due to a lack of part or parts from the supplier.

This lack of parts is due to pandemic related supply chain issues. If the supplier cannot supply the part the factory cannot complete the vehicle.

The vehicles are being completed as the factory receives parts from the supplier. However, we do not have an ETA for the factory receiving the parts.

I sent this email to the CEO of BMW NA, Sebastian Mackensen (sebastian.mackensen@bmwna.com)

Quote:
Dear Sir,

It is not my habit to write emails like this to executives, but I am beyond frustrated at this point, and I feel you need to know and understand this frustration. In October of 2021, having just sold my 2020 BMW M8 Competition Coupe, I placed an order for a 2022 BMW M4 Competition with xDrive. The order was for a car that was to go into production Week 45 of 2021 (the week of November 8th), and while this occurred on time, on 11/11, when my car hit 155 Status/Quality Check it stopped. I have now been waiting 72 days, and nobody can or wants to tell me what is going on, or when I can expect the car to get shipped here to the US. I do know that the CID is what is preventing the production from being completed, and what is crazy to me is that cars that went into production far later are getting those parts, and are being delivered to customers. I also know that when (if?) this car finally gets shipped, it will get stopped, again, at the VDC for RAM (radio module) and Amplifier, which could be another lengthy delay.

I know that chip shortages are what is causing the delays, but I know that other, more recent cars, are being produced with no issues. I also know that I am not alone, there could be dozens of people with the same story, and that they are as frustrated as I am.

As a long time BMW customer, this car (if I ever get it) would be my 10th BMW since 2004, and my 5th M since 2013, I feel that this is pushing me away from the brand. I have spoken to people at BMW USA Customer Relations, and I have been told that I am important to BMW, but I do not currently feel that that is the case.

My email to him was very similar, pointing out what you did and also mentioning I am a long time BMW owner this being my 8th and 3rd M. The more people that send emails the better. Maybe (not counting on it) this will get someone’s attention. They have totally dropped the ball on this situation, especially not keeping us informed and bypassing cars that should have been a priority to get finished.

Well written and we'll all be shocked if you get a response...

I did get a call today from BMW Corporate confirming they're looking into my specific delay (77 days in QC today). The polite woman said she wouldn't have a report back until early next week - At least it's something... Now if she says parts shortage I'll have to protest since it's clear they have parts - Just allocating them elsewhere.

The ultimate buzzkill - Must be like going to Hawaii and having it rain the whole time.

I got that same call two weeks ago, then a follow up call two days ago to tell me they've exhausted all their connections and had no answers, and to let my dealer handle it from here.

Guys it sucks but unfortunately all of us that are stuck in QC are in a really bad situation, as we all already figured it out, there's a parts shortage with the RAM CID and whatever the hell else is missing for us week 43-47 folks, despite that fact cars are being produced every single day and are flying off of the assembly line with absolutely no delays. Unfortunately no matter who we email or who we complain to nothing is going to get resolved because BMW as a whole is in a win win situation because if any of us back out they can sell that car in a heartbeat for MSRP or more because of the current situation. The demand is so high for these cars, a few angry customers complaining will not make BMW change anything sadly.

It's definitely clear to me now that it's more cost effective to just equip all the cars with CIDs and RAMs right at the assembly line and use the excess for the ones in QC . We're either going to be that lucky 1 or 2 that move soon or we're just going to keep on waiting until they resolve this parts issue.

Mike, my email has nothing to do with getting our cars more quickly. It is about BMW's complete lack of transparency and proactive communication. It falls on us to reach out to SA's, Genius and Customer Support to try to discern what is going on. We are making expensive purchases from a high-end manufacturer, yet BMW continues to reply with scripted statements and half-truths. They are losing, or have lost, the brand loyalty and integrity of many repeat customers and if I were a senior leader I'd want to know about it. If those senior leaders are apathetic to our concerns, it is further affirmation that they could care less.
