Michelin Discontinues Track Connect offers owners $500

Got an email this morning from Michelin.

Dear MICHELIN® Track Connect® Consumer,

You are receiving this email because you have registered your email with the MICHELIN® Track Connect® service.

We are writing to inform you that starting on March 31st, 2023, we will no longer be selling our MICHELIN® Track Connect® kits. You will be able to continue to use the solution for the remainder of the 2023 calendar year. After which, the mobile application and related services will be discontinued at the end of 2023.

The decision to stop marketing these kits was based on the Michelin Group’s need to deploy connected tire solutions for a broader public in the coming years while capitalizing on the experience gained through MICHELIN® Track Connect®. Over the past few years, we have built up a wealth of technical experience and an understanding of consumer needs that are crucial to the development of new solutions.

Michelin Pilot Sport Cup2 tires will still be available and can be used with or without the Track Connect kit.

Although a page has been turned with the end of MICHELIN® Track Connect®, the story of the connected tire in field of sports and other uses has only just begun.

As a thank you for your support in this great adventure, we would like to offer you financial compensation for the discontinuation of the MICHELIN® Track Connect® service. Michelin would like to offer you a $500 USD compensatory offer.

To benefit from this compensation, please reply to this email with your name and current mailing address, your receiver number* and a picture of the receiver attached** (please see the example included). Only one payment will be given for each receiver number in service. The deadline for you to send us back your reply with receiver number* and picture of receiver** is October 15, 2023. If you no longer have the receiver in your possession, we thank you for your support, but will not be able to offer you compensation.

I have the Cup2 Connects, but the kit was too expensive. In hindsight, with the discount, this would have been effectively a free kit.

I used it exactly twice. Most valuable data I got was that the surface temps were 15 degrees hotter than what in car tpms reports.

How did those temperatures compare to measurements from a tire pyrometer? The Connect sensor isn't on the surface of the tire rather embedded in a slot in the tire, so I'd assume it was a bit off as well.

Never compared to pyrometer, however since its on the inside touching the rubber I feel it would be pretty close to sub surface temps taken on the outside.

Not sure anyone using these actually needs that level of accuracy

Kind of why it's going away.

The TPMS reported air temperature is good enough for me and I know if I'm at 200F, I should have backed off a while ago. 140 through 180F seemed to be optimal for the P0 tires with a gradual warm up (3 laps).

I would want a temp reading from across the width of the tire too.
