I won't say having M3 as opposed to M4 is what made me buy the G80, but...it's the M3 that I've been wanting for the last 20 years, so to get an "M4" might be a tiny let down. For the most part though, it's about getting sedan body. Even the old 2-door M3s were 2-door sedans more than 2-door coupes, to me. Now that the M4 is more of a "fastback", it's not the "shape" of the car I fell in love with in high school. Even though like many posting above, I don't plan on using those back seats to do anything more than hold my laptop bag once in a while.

I don't see what you gain by getting a G82, but you give up a lot of practicality. To me, the G80 is the perfect have your cake and eat it too car.
If I did not want a convertible this time, I would have gotten another G80, without a doubt

When the time came, i was like ok it's M time. Saw both the G80/82 and was like wait, the M3 is the better looking one this time. Both look great. BMW did it right but the proportions on the M3 are suited better. Think of it this way, they're the same size right? That means the M4 is a gigantic ass car for a coupe lol. |

M3 looks right for the grille, even though not a huge fan. But M4 looks ugly and a lot will agree with me.
Also watched a YouTube video on why M3 looks better than the M4 with this grille. There is analysis done by a BMW designer. I think the M4 rides more sporty, could be due to the seating position or minor tweaks.

Totally subjective choice. I have owned several 5 series cars when my children were young, and this will be my 3rd M coupe. I prefer coupes but that’s just me. And calling it an M4 doesn’t matter at all to me. Now if it would get built anytime soon I will be happy.

Looks: I think from a present styling perspective the G80 looks better than the G82. Looking forward to an LCI.
Practicality: The G80 ends up making the back seats more functional than the G82. Shorter doors are a little easier in tight parking spaces. Rear view in the G80 is better. Seating position: For a tall and broad shouldered driver, the G82 has the B pillar bulge further back and more out of the way of the drivers shoulder.

But because of the grill, because of the proportions, because of how "big" the M4 is as a coupe, without showing much curves, the styling and the grill, fit better for the M3. |

I've never understood this, as I've owned an E92 and many F30s/G80 now.
The M3 (and M4) is a car based on practically and Performance. Choosing the M4 doesn't mean you'll never use the back seat, and vice versa for the M3. I was single when I had the E92, now I have a 4 year old so the choice was simple. But I'm sure she could get back there if I really wanted an M4. The whole point here is that both cars require little sacrifice. It's whichever one you like better.
