After 20 years driving. It finally happened.

I curb checked a wheel

I caught a small patch of ice in DFW area today after our hard freeze and my right rear took a concrete punch to the face.

Anyone know anything about repairing forged wheels?

Excuse the dirty wheel pic.

I'm afraid that's a difficult one. I had a big off on the motorway and destroyed one wheel and scratched two up pretty bad. The problem is the smoked lacquer (you have bi colours right?)
After ordering one new wheel I went to the alloy refurb shop, they said that all four would have to be done as the match wouldn't be perfect. So I got four redone and the end result was poor. The consistency of the smoked clear coat was poor, very patchy and lots of dark spots.
If you can get a new wheel, not cheap but the only way it'll be perfect again.

I would treat this as an opportunity to get them powder coated.

I was actually thinking of powder coating. Sounds like that’s the option

That's a long time to go without curbing a wheel but the first time hurts the most. Actually, scratch that. Everyone hurts. The first 24 hours are the worst though.

Yeah the bi-color tint is hard to match if they are like the shadowline 666M and 788M. Don't feel bad I curbed mine too lol

Check your alignment as well, sometime it does not take much to knock it off.
As they say, been there done that, it happens. Glad you are ok and it was just cosmetic.

This is why I paid for the wheel warranty. I think I paid $500 for it. Maybe $600. Either way if you had paid that this accident would have been free and you would have probably even made some money. I would just replace the wheel at this point. Getting that fixed will be difficult.

$120 fix. A good wheel shop will make the wheel repair/paint look great with ease. Had a bicolor wheel repaired for my daughter and it looks great.

The Stig I hit a curb in my M5C with forged wheels and called the Sewell dealership. They gave me a couple of shops they recommend. I forget the name, but I took the wheel to the one in Farmers Branch. My damage was very light, but I think they did a good job. I removed the wheel at home and took the wheel to them. I was not leaving my car there overnight. It takes about 24 hours for the repair. Good luck.

I agree. A good wheel repair shop should be able to take care of that in 24 hours. I would ask your dealership who they use for their cars. They generally have a local shop that comes to the show room on a weekly basis to do repairs for them.

Definitely check to see their work.

Coincidentally my buddy works for Land Rover range rover and they have a rim repair company they work with.

He gave them a rim to straighten and they scratched the rim up bad.

Now they are in for a new rim or repair to look and spin like new

I'll admit it, I curbed my wheel it was about 5 or so inches in length. I was kinda pissed but knew I could fix it. It's super easy.

Step 1: Sand it down smooth. Start with a 120 grit sand paper then work your way up to 240 grit, then finally to 600. It'll be smooth to the touch. You'll have to sand the surrounding paint too so it blends in.

Step 2: Find a matching spray paint color to the wheel. You'll apply 3 layers, spray the first coat very lightly (no need to cover the entire area in one go). Follow the wait time on the spray paint (generally 20min) then spray another light coat. Wait another 20min then apply a medium coat.

Step 3: Apply a clear coat. Again you'll apply 3 coats as in Step 2.

Step 4: Enjoy your work.

Note: When selecting spray paint/clear coat. Make sure it's wheel grade.

Below is a picture of my wheel I fixed. You can't even tell.

Just curious what, paint and clear coat did you use?

This. I ended up replacing the wheels I damaged on my F80. Price was painful.

Just get a wheel guy to fix it. It should come out looking as nothing had happened. Costs around $150.
