When you're bench racing these cars, the numbers may look "closer" but, they are in fact not even in the same ball park. I've gotten a draggy timed, 3.17 0-60 in my M4 xDrive, and 11.21 @123.4 qtr. On the street. The standard M340 is a 12.3 @ 115.

The 3rd video is just for shits and giggles, where you can see just how much of a difference the cars are. They actually pull an 11.0 @ 125 in the M4, and get under 3.0 0-60.

Always appreciate the visual aids Talon.

That’s crazy. Tires or temps make up some of that delta, or the tuning of the B58 trumps the S58? Btw original discussion was M4 manual v M340i - the differences were explained in my previous post, but I’ll make a couple points since I’ve had the x drive comp and the manual and the Z4M40 with the B58-

1) the b58 is a great engine (responsive, quick to spool up) and with some suspension mods that car must be very quick - my Z4 certainly was. I bet it would give my manual M3 a run for its money at least below 80 mph. I would imagine the brakes are also a limitation on the M340 without an upgrade - and the cooling, etc. if tracking.

2) M3 manual - car is on rails. There is obviously a suboptimal gear ratio compared to the ZF8 auto, but it’s such an enjoyable car. Not all about going faster on public roads - more time to enjoy each gear.

3) M3 comp x - I was getting 3.0s to 60 and car was unbelievably fast.

Same here, and it's only $100 more...smh

Why would you say the tuning on the B58 trumps the S58? Unless you're talking about responsiveness at low rpms due to higher threshold on the S58.

Precisely. Alpina tuned the
B58 to these high hp and torque levels and that resulted in trumping the S58 in the comp x (if I understood correctly?).

In my Z4 experience the B58 is more responsive than the 6MT M3 S58 especially at lower rpm’s, but then fades or hits a linear power limit as the rpm’s climb while the S58 pulls much harder.

The higher boost power and torque comp S58 tune is much more powerful than the B58 just about everywhere in the range.

Yep, I would have ordered the silver wheels and galvanic controls for my 2023 had they been available.

B58 has significantly higher compression than S58, which means it makes much more power as an NA motor before the turbo spools. Combine that with a single twin-scroll turbo that spools quicker than the twins on the S58 and you get a dead-flat torque curve that starts nice and low, which is fantastic for everyday driving. In exchange, you give up power on the top end and ability to scale to crazy-high boost levels.
