No RHD manual G8x?

Only just joined this chat. Have a first production run M4 6 speed manual and love it. Ready to change up to the new M4 only to discover that BMW are NOT offering a manual transmission on right-hand-drive models. This means we third pedal devotees in UK, Australia, Singapore, Japan, South Africa and the Caribbean are out of luck. IMAGINE! And this after BMW have been boasting for years that M is for Manual. I am hoping that enough of us can complain loud enough for BMW to come to its senses and offer a manual in right hand drive.

BMW AU list them on their website and I've been told by BMW NZ that even though it isn't listed they could get me one. It does seem weird that they aren't going to the UK though as that would be the largest market by far.

If UK is not getting MT is that means BMW will not offer MT for RHD?

I've put a deposit for a RHD 6MT G80 in Hong Kong. The price is TBC and should be confirmed later this month. My production slot is for March.

I've attached the spec that was sent to me from the salesperson.

Correct me if I am wrong but I think I remember I saw somewhere that the F8x 6MT takers was about 2% in UK and that was why they decided not to offer it for G8x?

Correct. It was a little below 2%.

I'm complaining with a move to Porsche.

It's the only way BMW board will listen. To be fair I've been looking for something a little 'different' for some time, it's been on the cards but the looks and this have made it a very easy decision.

Make sure you turn up with it to your dealer, with your flag I'm guessing Jackson's are your only option - I was curious enough to look it up!

Thanks for that info. It means RHD 6MT IS being built.
Now I need to figure out how to get one in Trinidad.

Went to look at Porsche already. Unfortunately I need to carry golf clubs or beach chairs and there isn't room for either in a 911.

I'm shocked it's that low. I get that modern automatics are fantastic but it's basically a shunning of the manual transmission.

To clarify, BMW UK are specifically only importing the Competition model which is the same policy as the X3/4M, X5/6M, M5, M8 etc. The 6MT is offered only on the non-Competition (480bhp) model, the G8x M3/M4 Competition model is exclusively 8AT only. This clearly means no 6MT will be available for the UK.

I believe this is mainly because a) a larger majority of UK buyers would pick the Comp models anyway, b) it reduces engineering/homologation costs and c) I understand the figure of 6MT F8x M3/4 sold in the UK was <2%, so its simply not worth it financially.

I can't speak definitively for other RHD markets such as Japan, ME, Oz, Nz etc, but people in this thread have indicated they can get RHD 6MT cars in their markets (such as Oz and NZ) even if it is in effect a 'special order'. So bottom line is look to your local BMW importer/regional office for accurate information on availability of the 6MT in your market, but it is certainly not available in the UK.

Apparently lots of people in the UK are very upset they wont have the option to get a manual for the G80/G82 and have taken to the streets in protest. Authorities estimate as many as SEVEN people are outside BMW UK Headquarters.

As an enthusiast I also get upset when manufacturers no longer offer manual for certain models/markets and I get excited when I see a new car offered with manual or even when I see an older manual Audi or Mercedes for sale on bring-a-trailer etc... But I'm not buying a manual G80 for myself

Some of us still love manuals and want to see them stay, but don't buy them anymore. Shame on us

I'm a manual enthusiast as well but if everyone who complained actually bought one in manual, this wouldn't be an issue.

6MT is available in RHD markets with 2 exceptions:

- UK (due to Brexit)
- Regional Markets distributed through UK (Latin America & Caribbean)

I do not see how this makes sense financially for BMW. Most of these cars are specifically ordered by the customer and a production date given. What's the difference building one for Hong Kong or Trinidad or UK? Doesn't BMW realise that this is just annoying to their fan base?

Between TyT/UK: No difference as non SAV M orders are done by ATL Automotive in Jamaica, submitted through BMW UK (Park Lane London IIRC).

Now that there's a Brexit Deal in place, additional variants could become available after the initial launch.

Can you explain how brexit impacted the offering of the comp but not base model?
