The M was a magnet for attention, and the chassis was very taut. Power delivery wasn’t the smoothest either. I worry less now and enjoy driving a lighter sports car with a compliant ride quality with a smoother engine. Plus mpg is up from 15 to 21. And the Y for commute really blends in.
If I had fo pick one car, the plaid is incredible performance with efficiency and comfort. Very sharp interior as well.
The new interior is night and day from the old one. The Renault/ Puegot steering wheel is gone, overall, it’s a great improvement.

Concur as my Plaid interior is really good with no quality quirks either ... I think the seats are extremely plush and comfy but because of this and the excessive power they are not that supportive if one wants to try and push the Plaid into some street bends but Im used to it now.

I do love the huge screen but hate the horn button and haptic signal presses. Ive literally almost had 10 people back up into me in parking lots and was freaking out on pushing/finding the horn... thankfully I got lucky and the fools realized they needed to look behind themselves.

The cost to operate is shocking for me, I pay 13 cents a kw to charge it and the way I drive I get around a 60-70 miles a gallon in translation via the cost of 91 octane currently.

I see your point too about just getting up and going and not having to worry about in a mall or shopping center (super model comment), its not a look at me car in the least but you can make it look better

My biggest pet peeve is of course, no exhaust noise but the OTA update on the 22 speaker system gives me some nice interior boom

I think they look great in Ultra Red!! I'm looking to get a Plaid.

I can't think of a better daily driver that will be mostly highway driven, has good ride quality and will obliterate anyone who messes with you including most bikes.

They made the horn easier to honk on the yoke wheel. I know you got rid of yours, but, I wonder if the horn works the same?

You can grip the entire spoke, like you’re palming it, to active the horn in an emergency situation, versus trying to just press the button.

Just curious on anyone's thoughts on this comparo. I had a model 3 performance which was alright and now a model y which seems like the sweet spot for tesla, but I see the model S all over the place now and can't help but wonder how people actually like theirs or if they've had both the G80 and the model S. My conclusion is the impression most people have is model S is great for commuting and the M3 is great as a weekend car, but actually the M3 is amazing at both - only catch is I get 20 mpg commuting and 15 mpg on the weekends.
I’d rather have my eyes gouged out with a spoon than trade my manual ‘22 M3 on any Tesla.

It appears so. 3 seconds faster than the G82 xDrive and 4 seconds faster than the M5CS.

Edit: This car is much faster than this. On the straightaway, the car was struggling at 284kph. The track package raises the limiter to 322. The car probably has a 7:20 in it, at least.

Yeah I was thinking it would at least hit 300kph. Maybe the car was overheating and cutting power but I’m not sure if the Plaid suffers from those issues.

I saw this and thought the same thing, its limited (pegged) at 285- even though 7:25 is nothing to laugh at.

I talked to chicagofan00 the other day, offline, and I was saying it’s like a supermodel for me. Gotta watch where I drive it. Cant park without using the front camera. Always worried about who I park next to. Don’t park it outside.

It’s full ppf, but even I’m picky about keeping the ppf in good shape. It’s just turned into too much of a garage Queen that I have to be too cautious about everything. I don’t want to drive it in the rain. I know it sounds ridiculous, because it’s just a car, but, having about $150k into it, I take extreme care of it.

Cross shopping:

I went out, last weekend, and drove a Model S LR and as someone else already mentioned in here, it made me physically sick. I had a headache after just driving the car for 5-10 minutes.

I wouldn’t exactly put it in the same performance league as the G80. The 60-130 in the 670hp LR is 7.7. The G80 is 9.8.

Why bother with the Plaid? Because you always get used to the power. The Plaid 60-130 is 4.3, and nothing really touches it as far as speed and quickness.

I realize the depreciation, but, taking into consideration that my fuel bill for 2 cars, last month, was $744.08, which is more than the entire cost of my commuters payment, and insurance. I could get rid of my G80 and my commuter and just get the Plaid. Since depreciation is trash, anyway, I could put the 28k miles a year on it, like my commuter, and save about $1,300 a month in payments, fuel and insurance.

I think the M3/M4's are good cars.

But right now i still have a "slow" tesla in the model 3LR. My GF loves the car and her credit is crap so i can't transfer the lease over to her. I can take a hit if i really want to to get out of my lease but i'm waiting for my C8Z to arrive. My order went through GM 2 weeks ago but i didn't get a TPW yet. Hopefully soon. I should have the car before end of summer i'm hoping.

Once i get the car, will start to focus on dumping my model 3 and possibly putting my M3 on swap a lease to see who wants to take that over. I don't use the M3. I had it 18, going on 19 months now and i have 8500 miles. When i drive it on the weekends, it's sluggish. Doesn't matter if i'm in sport plus. I want the immediacy of RIGHT NOW. Similar to my tesla. While my M3 would walk it from a roll, my model 3 is faster than my M3 from 0-80 or so time and time again.

If people are shopping for a model s, why not just spend the 20k more and get a plaid.

9.2 vs 10.6 in the 1/4.

Or 4.3 vs 7.7 60-130.

I know those are unrealistic numbers to want to achieve from day to day driving but those who have driven dual motor teslas, on whatever variant, will know how confidence inspiring it is when you know you can just dip into the throttle a little bit and you're gone. No waiting, no drama. Just dip in the throttle and you're pushed from behind and you can go anywhere you want to go. You can exploit any gap and pass people with ease.

The amount of fun i have from people who will not let me merge and i just stomp on the throttle and get in front of them and watch them rage in my rearview mirror will never get old lol.

I kinda get why people hate teslas, because of behavior like that but i have seen worse behavior with people driving slow cars. So might as well return the favor in a car you know is faster.

With a plaid, nothing will touch you in your daily commute. You're essentially unstoppable.

Make sure you change the video quality settings to 2160. This was from my Demo drive, last weekend.

Ultra Red is sick! Looks wet! It looks like it has a shimmer like my Rosso ETNA Quadrifoglio had.
What are your thoughts in the fleah?

I would probably just go with the 19s as they are so much lighter.

I have read about multiple people having trouble getting flats with the 21's and tires are hard to source.

I love it in the Ultra Red, but I just have never been a fan of red cars. The G80 looks good in red, and all Ferraris are red.

The rest don’t do it for me, and I like a Arachnid wheels and that would be the plan, but, I actually like VicS5 wheels on his. I’m not sure what they are, but they look like Vossen HF5.

The plaid’s days are numbered and then you’ll have a regular old Tesla. It’ll still be fast, but the acceleration is it’s only claim to fame.

The S is ok, but I don’t even think it is even the best looking car really. I’d expect the value of them all to drop precipitously once the majors catch up to the plaid, and they will very soon.

I don't see any of the big OEM'S catching up with the model S Plaid for a while in straight out acceleration.

Sure there maybe be $500k+ exotic, super cars that will match or beat it. Not any sedan for $100k new soon I don't think.

There won't be. Unless like you said, cars costing double, triple or more than the plaid. Sure the sapphire is quicker, but not by much, and it costs what? 250-260? Are they even on the road at all these days? lol

When we all shift into EV, then we'll see low 9 second EV's, or even 8s, from all of the exotic car makers like ferrari, lambo, mclaren etc. But i think they're not going to put them out until we get closer to 2035.

Right now the plaid IS the car to get if you want complete street dominance. Then with a push of a button, you can make it a "slow" 12 second car. Or similar performance to a model 3/Y LR.

Brooks from dragtimes tested the different modes out. I think on the slowest setting it ran like 14's lol. Then plaid mode and voila, 9 second passes.

It's awesome!

True. But the Sapphire is pretty good looking. Too bad it’s more than the cost of 2 Plaids, which I don’t see the take rate being very high, at that cost.

It doesn’t trap much quicker than the plaid. I’ve seen The Tesla Plaid Channel, run a 9.1 in his, with the seats out. The 156 trap would get you kicked out of any sanctioned 1/4 mile track, since the top speed is 150. Over 150 and you need a parachute and a roll cage.

The charging network, outside of Supercharging, is subpar at best. I watched a few road tripping videos by Out of Spec motoring, road tripping in the Lucid Air and the Electrify America charging network, I would say, has about a 60%-70% uptime rate as compared to Teslas 99.95%.

Everywhere the guy went to charge, driving from Colorado to North Carolina, there were multiple charging stations 🚉 that were either down, completely off, or were only working at half capacity.

Having over 50k miles on his own Model 3, and he’s never been to a Supercharger that was down, and only twice since he’s had the car, has he even gotten to a Supercharger and had to wait in line for a charger to open up. And both times, he claims, the wait was no more than 5 minutes before someone was done charging and he could get in.

Half of Teslas worth, is their Supercharging network. This is the new 250kw supercharger about 5 minutes from my house, and this is the first time I’ve ever seen it this busy. It’s been open for about a month, and in fact, it’s not even listed on the supercharging map, yet and I drive by it a few times a week, and this was the first time I’d seen more than 1-2 people at it.

If I was charging, here, I still would have been ok, because there were 2 chargers open, even at how busy this day was.

Sapphire does look good, i ain't even going to lie.

The only issue i have with it, is that it doesn't "look fast", even though it's insanely fast. It just looks like a futuristic buick or something.

With the plaid, it's design profile is more sleek looking, giving a depiction of speed. The lucid interior is nice though for sure. I honestly would love to have that interior even though i am a big fan of the minimalistic interior tesla's have. At least the model S/X has a screen in front if you instead of just the big IPAD screen.

Honestly i've had my model 3 for like 15 months now and i probably been to a supercharger maybe 5 or 6 times. My GF has level 2 at her house but since my commute is literally 20 miles a day total, i can just plug the car when i get home at level 1 and be totally fine and recharged the next morning.

The only issue i see with the tesla network, which is amazing since they're everywhere with more being installed, is that a lot of the times tesla owners abuse the stations. There was one time i checked my app and it showed the SC 1.4 miles from my house had 9/12 stalls available (meaning 9 empty, 3 being used), when i got there, 3 of the chargers were broke. And by broke i mean the plug was cracked, or there was an error code where it wouldn't start the charge. I had to move my car repeatedly to the next stall while the other tesla owners were watching me and probably laughing lol.

These things will get better over time. Some people don't have an understanding of how these things work they just hate EV's and say if it doesn't charge my car in 5 minutes like i can fill up a tank of gas it'll never work out!!

Like do they not understand you can't just feed that much energy into the battery like that? Similar to why it still takes 45 minutes or 1 hour to charge your cell phone.

Once battery and charging technology improves, this will get better. Even if it reduces charge times from 30-40 minutes to 15-20 minutes in the next 5-10 years or so, that is definitely a success.
