Yup. Have you also noticed the (familiar) BMW M logo registered last month ? See here and here.

I'll post a dedicated thread and include kudos to you to for the heads up.

EDIT: see here ("BMW trademarked "50 JAHRE BMW M", "Evo Sport", "Evo Track" + updated Motorsport logo").

Are there exterior updates expected?
F80 LCI v1 came a year after launch. I know I had a first /500 car and was really annoyed the second year model was a LCI. This updated the F80 to the refreshed LCI F30 spec - eg new tail lights.

F80 LCI v2 came a year again after that (so 2 years out from initial launch). This brought the F80 LCI into line with the just released F82 LCI and improved chassis tuning (eg. new front halo lights).

My lesson from this - never buy a first year M3. As long as BMW insists on holding back launch for the M4 initial M3 buyers suffer depreciation hits and fast deprecated car designs.

The 4-series LCI came a bit later than that, it came mid 2017, so 3+ years after initial launch.

It was launched 2014. The F80 M3's design was then LCI v1 updated in (summer) 2015 for the 2016 model year and LCI v2 updated in (march) 2017 for the 2018 model year. At that point I vowed to wait until they'd sorted out their game before jumping in again on a launch year model. The F87 CS was a good application of that principal and I expect the G80 CS/LCI will further reinforce it.

There are examples of LCIs being brought forward if initial market reception isn't great. I have only seen 1 new 4 series on the road and countless 3 series, so it will be interesting to see how that pans out. That said, there are many members here who buy 2 or 3 cars within a m model's generation run and if you're happy to do that there's no point waiting.

So we are saying the same thing, the 4-series LCI occurred 3-years after launch, and not 2, as you originally stated.

Cars keep improving throughout their lifecycle, this is to be expected. At some point you need to be content with what you buy, otherwise always waiting for the next best will never get you into ownership. I bought an M4 in the summer of 2014, I enjoyed that car thoroughly for 4-years and then replaced it with an M4cs in 2018 when the warranty expired.

The announcement of the 2nd LCI (March 2017) came less two years after my OG August 2015 delivery so it felt closer to 2 than 3 years but I hear what you're saying. If you're happy to buy a second G80 later in the lifecycle you won't probably care/mind, agreed. In Australia the 2016 LCI v1 was accompanied by a $10+k price drop to rub salt into the wounds. BMW gave me an extended 5 year warranty when I raised it so that eased some of the pain. I suspect many other first year buyers just wore the accelerated depreciation at resale.

I already don't like how few buttons exist now. No idea how people can like doing everything on the screen. The MB style of one long screen looks bad imo. It's like it was a group project and screen guy forgot to do his part until 30 mins before it was due.

I really hope this interior isn't what the LCI is going to look like…although if I can ever secure my 2022 allocation I won't really care. I'm a fan of the tech but not a fan of losing all the physical buttons and this massive tacked on tablet look. This just feels so un-sports car like, I guess that is until it isn't and is what every single car looks like.

I haven't seen any new information in this thread on what the LCI or CS model might include. Nothing to see here...

I don't care about the big rectangular display. I have sat in MB's with that setup and it's actually pretty decent from behind the wheel. I'm more interested in the instrument cluster being more customizable so the boomerang displays can be ditched in favor of traditional round dials. I'm not sure why BMW is insisting on this look when nobody likes it.

I just got rid of a 20 CLA45 with the dual screens...first time I sat in the car I was greeted by some great engineering, the wheel blocks both screens.

Does the rear bumper look less protruded / projected than the current model?

Hard to see any differences on the front end.

The car is lacking the side skirts and mirrors of the M3 but I supposed that doesn't matter for testing purposes.
