Not an option, AWD is an absolute must. This F80 was my first ever RWD car and I would never take it to where I plan on taking the G80. Snow tires on RWD is fine in some light snow on flat roads but not for ski trips when it's dumping. I'll get a manual GT3 or something in the future to satisfy the manual cravings.

I have a condo at Sunday River in Maine and I never had any problems on Michelin Alpins. How often you go up?

Often - Killington is my home mountain - my buddy owns a house right off the access road. I wouldn't even be getting a G80 if it wasn't for the AWD option! This isn't a 6MT vs Auto decision, it's a RWD vs AWD decision. I have my VIR and awaiting my allocation (i'm next in line), it's happening

I have a set of winters for my F80, it's just not the same. I prefer to be the AWD tank on winter tires, rather than the "just getting by" RWD car on winters.

I had a loaner as an automatic

All I did was floor it

Made me feel like I was in a rental

I understand. I see exactly what you mean by "just getting by" with a RWD on winters.

I'm guessing the AWD will come with same tyres as the RWD? So for driving in the snow you would have to get another set regardless.

Yeah, I always get a dedicated set of snow wheels/tires.

Interesting takes. My performance cars were never winter drivers, as I've lived in the true snow belts most of my life. My 2020 CR-V is perfect for winters here--and cargo and rear seating capacity, mpg, etc, so AWD on the M4C doesn't really interest me. Better launch from a dig, but at highway punch, no difference except the AWD will be heavier. Just like M3 vs M4, personal preference.

Same opinion here, except 2020 Pilot Elite haha. Honda knows how to make a good SUV that does well in all terrains. I am a fan of the Pilot series, and Honda's SUV lineup in general. Also, they make a hell of a motor for light equipment like lawn mowers and snow blowers.

Same here. We live 15 miles out of a town which averages 100” of snow per year.

Dude so well said…I live in NH and was born and raised in Berlin, NH…not hating on AWD, but the times I actually needed it I didn't need to be out driving. Not everyone has that luxury and I get that, but good snow tires and you're fine.

I can definitely attest to the Michelins - I had the Alpin PA4s on my F80 and they were very capable in the snow....now granted I never took them up into the mountains but I drove through some pretty gnarly conditions without incident.

I went with RWD as I wanted the car for summer and didn't want to wait but eventually I would consider swapping to AWD. I will see how the winter goes. I don't do huge miles and luckily have no need to drive in bad weather and can easily avoid it given I live in the city and go to work on subway etc.

I do like the idea of my wife driving AWD over RWD though in bad weather. I don't think I'd be confident in her driving this car in really bad conditions as she is quite inexperienced and only has her license a few years

I'm not going to be driving fast in bad weather anyway with a baby in the back so will be fine with RWD 99% of the time but I can imagine a few occasions where we are going away for the weekend and the weather is brutal where the AWD would have been a really nice option to have

Mount Tremblant is my home turf and wanted to go Killington last season (unfortunately didn't happen due to COVID). Definitely try to go again this year

Driving 7-hr in and out of mountains to ski pretty much every weekend during winter… so definitely AWD+winter tires.

Got a few times stuck on snowy inclines in a front wheel drive car on winter tires on the way to my cottage (those would be sideway down a cliff if I was in a RWD car so no thanks…)

I live in South Central TX, so I don’t have any real need for AWD.

I’ve also owned 2 AWD cars and find RWD to be more fun and engaging plus I wanted a manual and like a few others have pointed out, there’s no option for AWD and a manual.

The AWD car is more suitable for places that get measurable snow and it will be a dig champ for sure but for me, there was only one choice.

Pretty much the same thinkign as I had....

Ive had 3,000 miles of enjoyment out of mine and at th emoment see no need for AWD, when I test drive the AWD and if I prefer it I will wait for the touring and swap :-)

My wife alse has a 4wd and I work from home so fo rme its jsut for family drives and about 2500 of th emiles I have driven so far, I had no place to go just jumped in and went for a drive :-)

Still I am wondering about your preferences regarding RWD vs AWD? My head is still thinking should I have waited for the AWD?

1) Are the expected differences RWD vs AWD that much in daily driving in warm weather or what is your experience with the previous F82 RWD?

2) Is the added traction and expected better performance more in the 0-100km/h area or also in the 80-120km/h, 100-200km/h area, which I would think is the more frequent use case in daily driving?

3) I know we have no real performance data as of today but whats your estimation comparing the two drivetrains and how do previous F82 drivers look at the drivetrain question?

I will do a short term lease so the choice of RWD/AWD is not that important to maybe buying the car. Still wanted to know what your drivetrain choice looks like with the facts we currently have...

Thanks for your feedback & happy holidays...!!
It’s both for me where i live I’m from chicago so in the winter i need AWD but in the summer i love RWD.

RWD! X-drive is quite heavy at the nose. Understeers a bit. RWD is much easier to drive if know anything about driving.
