You spend nearly all the time inside the car. The interior is a literal deal breaker and a giant iPad that looks like shit is not something I want to be looking at the entire time I'm inside. Even the grille haters don't have to see it if they don't want.
If the single wide gaming monitor look worked then Mercedes wouldn't be abandoning it?

Still, call me silly, but I do have the slightest shread of doubt that we'll actually see an M3 and M4 side-by-side in the showrooms for eight months with completely different dash board. The 3 Series and 4 Series I have no problem with. It's just that the M3 and M4 are marketed so closely as a team. Anyway, I'm not inclined to belabor it, so I agree then: G80 - 7/22 G81 - 11/22 (at its debut) G82/G83 - 3/23 |

With regards to pricing, I don't think we will see a huge drop in MSRP at all, even if there is a LCI model in a year. Likely, it will stay the same or more, I mean, look at the C8. They may simply bundle more options into the standard price and have it go up a few grand. There's really no way to predict prices. What i'm saying is that if you want the car now, go head and get it. Enjoy what you have and don't worry about what's coming. Its not like the LCI will bring a new motor (ahem, M2C).

The only notable exception to this I can see in BMW's recent M history is the F80 M3 being launched with HUD when the F20 3 series only received it in the following year with the LCI refresh. |

Usually not, unless another model (CS, CSL) comes out. Since competition is out year one with a different engine tune, I would put the likelihood of this happening at almost 0.

2020 showed us that not only is life short but we never know what's around the corner. I believe in enjoying life now (responsibly). Just like with all consumer products there will be something "better" next year, phones, appliances, tvs, etc. Get what you enjoy and can afford now I say. If you wait for the LCI then the new model will be on the horizon so then why not wait for that. It's a never ending cycle to get us to keep buying.

I think the G80 looks better with ID7 right now, at least the screen set up looks more tolerable. I'm all for new tech, it seems to take away from the sharp looks inside if they only change the displays

Totally agree with you. I bought the M140i as soon as it came out, ordered in august '16, delivered at the end of november '16. Then few months later, the new interior and infortaiment upgrade went out (and by the way, mine had the idrive 5 upgrade too compared to the 4 mounted on the 35i)....so I've waited for the M140i instead of buying the M135 LCI, and then the result was having the same "issue". So now I've ordered the very first M3 Mxdrive that has been ordered here in Italy, being aware of the fact that the LCI will come out next year, but...at the same time, I'll enjoy myself with maybe a new car with "only" a slightly different taillight compared to the "future" LCI model; taillight that are easaly replaced with the latest one if you want. If you wait for the LCI, you'll have the problem that one year and a half later, there will be the major front refresh, so that....if people looks at these things, or they can spend a lot of money buying and selling rapidly their cars, or they won't even appreciate anything they were able to buy, just because the "wait" for the new one. I know that my car will be new, freshly made and something that will be difficult to be seen on the road for the first period, in its "little" it'll be something special to drive around. I prefer to have something unpublished, rather than having something "refreshed" but "already seen". And, if you wait for the LCI, maybe (I'm saying maybe) who know that it will loose its full ICE powertrain? And if they upgrade it to mild hybrid something? Would you loose to occasion to have the opportunity to own something that suits you NOW just because of a tailight or a wide screen due to arrive next year? I agree with Gfit, buy what you can experience NOW, and don't care about LCI's, refreshes, restyling or stupid things like them. We have only one life, we often forget that the time wasted won't never be given back to us.

Will there be a second M3C LCI? And can we expect major changes? How long will the second LCI run for? 1 or 2 years?

the M3 G80 LCI will end its production on october 2025.
If you look....just 4 years left. I repeat myself telling you all guys not to look at LCI's, refreshes, ID8 or something else. If you want a G80/82 and can afford it, go buy it NOW. Then there will be other stupid things (to me) as the new GSR24 (great safety regulations 2024) that will add even more electrical controls and safety systems to our cars, limiting even more our driving experience. I don't know if these systems can be disabled as it is today, but for sure, we will have the nose of the car covered by cameras, sensors and radars...more than they are today. And don't forget that also the USA wants to reduce drastically the Co2 and pollution emissions, so it's probable that also the OPF will appear to your cars in the next future. I'm enclosing below what it means. 07/2019 New General Safety Regulation enters into force next month Yesterday, the revised General Safety Regulation was published in the EU’s Official Journal. The regulation will make obligatory a list of safety measures for various vehicle classes over the coming years, such as tyre-pressure monitoring systems, advanced emergency braking, lane-keeping systems, and intelligent speed adaptation. According to the impact assessment accompanying the legislation, over 16 years, the revised GSR is expected to reduce the number of road casualties by 24,794, avoid 140,740 serious injuries, and provide an overall net benefit for society of €15.4 bn, considering lives saved and additional costs. This last step marks the end of the legislative procedure, and finally gives the exact dates of application: Safety measures marked as “A” in Annex II will become mandatory on 6 July 2022 for all types. This includes intelligent speed assistance, lane departure warning, tyre pressure monitoring systems for cars, and advanced emergency braking systems for trucks and buses. “B” measures as of 7 July 2024 for existing types (6 July 2022 for new types). This includes emergency lane keeping systems, tyre pressure monitoring systems for vans, trucks, and buses, advanced emergency braking systems for cars and vans, and event data recorders. “C” measures as of 7 July 2026 for existing types (7 July 2024 for new types). This includes advanced distraction recognition, and advanced emergency braking for pedestrians/cyclists. Heavy-duty vehicle direct vision, the only measure marked as “D,” will become mandatory on 7 January 2029 for existing types (7 January 2026 for new types).

Let's be clear. The sweet spot here is going to be a LCI G81 AWD Competition Touring. I will probably like the LCI's ID8 so not worried about that. If the steering wheel is some flat bottomed monstrosity I will just got for a MPE gloss carbon upgrade.
Test driving a G80 this weekend and if the ZF8 isn't atrocious I'm putting money down on the touring for next year to swap out the X4. The dealership we're visiting north of sydney has 7 deposits down already for the G81. |

So, I'm trying to follow - you're saying it's okay to have an atrocious transmission in a 5000 Lb SUV with 380hp, but not in a 4000 Lb wagon with 500hp? |

I wish thats not the case.
I doubt if BMW will make a significant powetrain update during LCI and also when only few MYs would be left in this platform, unless they are not meeting significant government regulations like what happened during F87 LCI. |

They will probably tune the suspension and chassis in LCI #2.
