Brake squeal

My car has less than 1k miles on it and the brakes cry like a baby! I’ve done what the manual says, anyone else have/had this issue? Do the stock pads just suck this bad?

Switch to EBC Red Stuff or iSweep 1500 pads to reduce brake squeal and dust.

Million threads about this one. The stock brakes will squeal, it even states it in the manual, just the natural of the pads. I replaced mine with ebc reds and no more squeals.

Other replies have the solution, but the squealing isn't about them sucking, it's one method of energy transfer, kinetic energy from the wheels being transferred away either as heat or sound, or by small vibrations in the pad/rotor contact. In this case, brembo decided that reducing sound wasn't a priority. They're great brakes otherwise.

Mine squeal since day 1. Cross the windows, crack up the music or drive like there is no tomorrow. Soon you will forgot the whole squealing sound

I'm 5k in and have the same problem. As others have suggested, replace them with ebc pads when the time comes. That's what I plan to do. I have noticed that when pressed firmly they don't make any sound.

Before you change your pads, if only doing it for reducing the noise, try bedding in the pads first.

- Go up to 70-80 mph, during an appropriate time and place, hit the brakes as hard as you can, as if you want to break the pedal (it won't break, don't worry), slow down to about 30 mph.
- As soon as you are at ~ 30 mph, accelerate back to 70-80 mph as rapidly as possible, then repeat the process 3 times.
- Then, starting from about 50-60 mph, brake at about 50-60% force, back down to about 25-30 mph.
- Accelerate back to 50-60 mph, and repeat the process for 3 or 4 more times.
- Do not give the brakes the chance to cool down between the runs.

I say this because I do not have any noise with the stock brakes, I am at ~3K mi. and bedded the brakes in after the break-in service. I think this process helps, and worth trying to see if it solves the issue.

I bedded my OEM pads like second day after I got the car. I am at 2500 miles and honestly I barely ever get any squeaks. I still hate the dust but I don’t have the squeak issue.

BackOnBlack I actually did do that, it's what the manual says to do. I'll do it again, hopefully they'll quiet down a bit...

I bedded properly and lasted until 1900 miles. Brakes starting to squeak now and progressively getting worse. Right now it's not too bad but I have heard other G8X's and I know where it's going. iSweep 2000's going on next week. Had always been the plan but just now getting to it.

My brakes squealed until I took the car to the track. If you aren't hard on these brakes they will squeal.

Worse than the squealing is the red brake dust. isweep 1500 pads solves both problems. I can drive hundreds of miles now and my wheels still look clean.

Most of the time, brake squeal is related to not having the brake pads and discs bed-in/burnished with each other. When you heat your brakes enough, the brake pads leave a light layer of pad material on the disc face (pad transfer layer). Then the pads ride on that layer of like material, rather than on the bare iron disc face. Think of it like rubbing your hands together, rather than running your hand over something smooth. The pad material on the disc face dampens noise.
When you drive your brakes and don't heat them up much, they work in an abrasive manner. They scrape the pad material off the disc face. If you daily drive, the pad transfer layer will gradually wear off, and you need to bed them in again to lay down a fresh pad transfer layer on the disc face. Below is a video on how to do a proper bed-in, and how to swap between street and race pads. If you digest everything in these two videos, you'll be armed with enough knowledge to keep your brakes quiet and working effectively.

EBC yellow or red will drastically reduce the squeal

This has been my experience as well. I have found that even without a proper procedure, a hard drive with lots of braking does the trick as well. Conversely when I cleaned my wheels recently with iron remover I found that squealing started again immediately, probably because enough of the iron remover got on the discs.

Updating this post.

Still on stock brakes. Two car washes and some spirited driving later, and back to zero squeaks. I think some other people are right, this pad compound just likes to be driven hard.

Still going to change out the brakes because I hate the sticky brown dust.

I just joined this forum to find a solution to this same problem. Bought a 21’ w/ 13k on it last year. I don’t drive very often or hard and the noise annoys me enough to consider trading it in.

What is the majority vote for who makes a good (and quiet)replacement pad?

Appreciate the help!

iSWEEP 1500/2000 or EBC seem to be the common choices around here. I'm going with a set of iSWEEP 2000's myself.

Thank you for the straight answer!! - I spent hours reading old threads and most content is everyone suggesting bedding, driving hard etc. My wife isn’t going to have a stomach for dinner if that’s how we need to arrive quietly. This is my 4th M, never an issue in the past.

Crazy part, the dealer wanted me to take a $10k hit on trade for 10 mths ownership and 3k miles.

I’ll go the new pad route before I even consider that kinda hit.
