Typically you do coding in diag mode but in this case it is safe to to disable asd with the engine running (I’ve done it many times on my own car) and doing it this way will allow you to really hear the difference as it happens.
Do you make the connection in diagnostic mode and and then start the car? Or do you just make the connection/plug in the OBD adaptor (in my case the ENET cable) while the car is running?

Sorry for all of the questions - and thanks!

You can just connect while the engine is running. No need for diagnostic mode for this.

This worked! So, to be clear if I want to turn it back on..just go back in a “01B4-ASD” back to green? And restart the car?
That should restore the activation code? I wasnt sure what you meant by restarting the module.

Can confirm that w iD8 all you have to do is go into the activation code section and turn ASD off. All is now good in the neighborhood!

Bimmercode recommends coding with the engine off and ignition turned on.

I’m pretty sure I already wrote somewhere in this thread that coding should generally be done with the engine off. But for the purposes of simply pulling the asd activation code, and if you want to hear the difference in sound live, you can do it with the engine running.

This is very interesting, although rather augmented, definitely adds drama to the driving experience with ASD on. But like with chicks, drama is not always good

Is there any way to turn the exhaust button on but disable the burble tune?

I'm not a pops and bangs fan.

If you code ASD off and add a valve controller to open the exhaust flaps, the button then only turns the burbles on and off.

Alternatively a flash tune with bm3 will give you independent control of the burbles.

My car arrived with 03/2023.20 and I have absolutely ZERO burbles that I can hear and I drive with the widows down frequently. I'm either deaf or they coded it out.

It’s pretty subtle if you have a fully stock car

I should have emphasized that it's fully stock as far as exhaust mods go.

I just did the update from 11/2022 to 03/2023 and also noticed a reduction in burbles. As my interior colour coding was gone and the initial 3 gongs were back, coded it right back out and also coded the ASD out again, which was active again.

I am not unhappy with the less burbles though, as this wasn't the greates sound, more like a constant noise not single distinct pops.

If you want to turn it back on, do the same process and select to restore the activation code. When turning it back on it does not happen live, the module needs to be restarted first before the ASD comes back on.

Lastly, it's a good idea to make a cloud copy of the bimmercode folder on your phone because if you lose the activation code backup that it creates, you won't be able to turn it back on.
Since I also dont succeed to code it off the normal way then I will also try this. One question, do I need to press "Code" also or it is only to select "Deactivating activation code"? Thanks in advance.

You don’t need to press code and you actually won’t be able to because the code button is not enabled unless a change is pending.

So I just press it and then back out and disconnect?

I also read here https://g80.bimmerpost.com/forums/sh....php?t=1974090 that you need to go into expert mode? Correct?

No, you don’t need to do any of that. Just do exactly what I wrote.
