It's about time BMW M had a new interpretation of the quad exhaust. The previous execution of the M quad exhaust has been more than aesthetically stagnant for over decade as a design element.

It will either be viewed as a heretic or something new to give the rear treatment a design direction. The possibilities of new exhaust pipe styles should be intriguing to you guys.

..the exhaust pipes are centered past the rear axel right... This could be a new form of performance exhaust option perhaps? not a whole new model? If the undercarriage was designed to accommodate centered diagonal quad and separated planar quads....

Exactly!

Same thing happened with the new Corvette C8... traditionalists bitching on Corvette Forum about the loss of round tail lights, elimination of the MT, and the change to a mid-engine platform. Of course the 2020 sold out immediately, and even adding a second shift, the 2021s are already sold out through at least the spring production.

Finally, A POWER BULGE!

The bonnet needed this.
I am just that little bit more interested in seeing this new M.

There will be at least another 4 5 iterations of the G8X over the next 6 7 years no doubt. Eagerly anticipating the reveal in the coming weeks!

I wonder how many special or limited models they will make for this car...

The F80 / G80 truck nuts muffler is hanging down into air flow on purpose, it acts as a simple diffuser without the expense of an actual diffuser (the expensive part is making room in your vehicle to have a true diffuser) and reduces drag by preventing air from getting trapped by the rear bumper.

Apples vs oranges.

When the F8x was launched the hate came from the switch from normally aspirated V8 to turbo inline 6(sound and turbo lag). The F8x also had grown in size. The styling was mostly praised by the majority.

The G8x hate is pure styling. The giant pig nose is very controversial. Not just on BMW forums by F8x owners, but all over non-BMW websites. Auto websites/blogs comment sections are sh*tting on the front end of the G8x.

Instead of focus being on the switch to a traditional torque converter transmission and optional awd. Those HUGE changes are being ignored because of the horrible design.

For now...let’s wait and see when the car start to show up at dealers and journalists get to take them home for proper reviews. My guess is that the looks will slide down the list of what’s really interesting with these cars.

I'm not sure how you learn to live with something that looks so subpar

Because looks are subjective to humans as evidential by fashion trends. What looked subpar suddenly looks awesome then it doesn’t and then it does again. There’s no truth in looks just opinions and opinions tend to change over time.

When the first details were released a lot of people were complaining about the AWD and the torque converter too.

I actually pointed out that I was expecting something more even in terms of aerodynamics, based on the under carriage pictures revealed at that time the diffuser is fake as usual,it's just a trim piece bolted to the bumper not inline with the competitors, Alfa for example.
Then of course the huge grille and the overall ugliness of the car are the main topic because they 've never done such an ugly M car

It is so incredibly obvious that these controversial design elements are used to differentiate models within the lineup.

This center exhaust is purely a way to visually differentiate the CSL/GTS from the 'base' M4.

The big grilles are purely a way to visually differentiate the 4 series from the similarly sized 8 series.

No BMW hasn't lost their mind. No BMW isn't catering to other markets. No BMW isn't diluting the M brand. Of course they are making a gamble, but you have to take risks in order to grow.

And I swear some days it feels like I logged into to the Barbie car forum were members hang around judging fashion faux pas all day instead of an M3 forum were everyone is super excited over a new ultra high performance model with potential to slap a GT-R on the hand is sighted...

People flipping out about center exhausts. Don't know why. I think it looks great. The first car I saw with a center exhaust was the Ferrari F40

Since then, there have been others and they all look great and I think the unique quad/center exhaust set up on the M4 will look bad ass once all the camo is taken off...
