Custom order waiting time

Hi all,

New to BMW...

trying to put a M3 custom order. What will be the estimated waiting time?

M3 manual

BMW farfield told me it will be 3~4 months...is that true or just a sales trap?

Thx.

A few variables to this question. Does your dealer have allocations?

If you're extremely lucky and they have an allocation/production number to give you right now... maybe. Most likely longer

Took 4 months and change *after* I got an allocation. West coast cars can take a while to ship. 3-4 months will be if you get an allocation immediately and it’s going into production in a few weeks.

I think it really just comes down to if they have an allocation or not, I ordered in March and got a production number right away and my car should be here in a couple weeks (it’s on a boat rn). I’d call around and see who has an allocation before deciding on which dealer.

This is 100%. If there is allocation then it’s about 3-4 months. No allocation then it’s very hard to say what’s going to take how long.

Only one guy said he has a recent allocation but it will charge 10k for that....

Others just said 4~6 months or even 8 months.

Btw, is there a way to verify if dealer does have upcoming allocation?

I don’t believe there is a way for us to see if they do or don’t, but I think brokers can. Maybe call a couple brokers and see what they say and what they’ll charge. If the broker fee is 1k and you can have it in 2-4 months with no mark up on the car then why not

Don’t pay $10k for a guaranteed allocation.

I went with Fairfield too. Paid 5K premium to completely custom build mine on 3/6. Went into production a month later and it will be at the port in Cali on 5/20.

I got my individual car exactly 5 months from the date of putting the order. Do you have an allocation already?

not yet...
reach out to several dealers and all of them said they can add me to waiting list.

Estimated time: build slot in the next 90-120 days with delivery 2-3 months later

Hard to tell. I went with BMW Visalia. I didn't want to pay for an allocation as some places were offering them with cash over MSRP. Waitlisted in October 2022, got an allocation in April 2023. Expecting delivery sometime at the end of June or early July. If you are willing to drive a bit, call around to other BMW dealers to see how quickly they think you can get an allocation. There is no telling how many allocations a dealer will get monthly but they can use historical data to give you an educated guess.

I was on a wait list at the dealer for 7 months, until an inventory 6MT car popped up and I bought it that day.

M3 allocation is slower than M4. They are made at different factories
