The extra "required" add-ons are just to pad the dealer's bottom line even further.

Also, I'm not sure what the value of LoJack is when you can track the location of the car via the myBMW app.

Context:

I'm based in CA. I currently don't have a vehicle and am looking to get one ASAP. An M3 is a dream car for me and have fallen in love with the G80. These are the non-negotiable specs for me:

—Black ext.
—6spd MT
—Black wheels
—Parking Assistant
—Executive Package

MSRP for this build is ~$76,345. There aren't any other dealers with this build in the US—which is why I'm now talking to a dealer in AZ despite being based in CA.

The dealer will not sell the car without these upsell items: 1) a clear bra ($2,495.00), 2) a window tint job ($799), and a 3) LoJack vehicle recovery system ($499). Making the vehicle $ 79,638. After taxes and fees, the final price quoted is $87,549.09.

I'm looking to lease for 36/mo and 10k mi/yr. I'd be putting $5k down. This makes my monthly payments $1292.

I wanted to get thoughts on the community on how this price sounds?

The current market is chaotic due to covid and chip shortages. Based on my conversations with dealers, in this market, it sounds like I'll be paying a bit over MSRP, no matter what. (At one point I was considering an M2 and dealers were telling me explicitly "we're selling this $5k over MSRP for market adjustment")

If the price I'm being grossly over-quoted, I could grit my teeth and put in a build and wait for the 2022 models. If the pricing is "within ballpark" of what I should be expecting to pay, then I'd like to proceed with this model.

Would love any feedback/ thoughts from the community.

This is total bulls**t! I'd tell that dealer to piss off and go spec a car without an additional $3,800 of inflated nonsense.

Now if you were planning on doing a clear bra, that's one thing, but I don't know that I'd let the dealer be doing it. $799 for tint is laughable.
Find a different dealership.

Are you getting it from Chapman BMW Chandler? If not talk to Stephen Burgess. He was selling below MSRP back in May

Yeah, this is B.S. Looks like a bunch of unlisted fees too, since the final out the door price is about 10% higher than the car plus those extra items.

This would be a hard pass for me. I hate games. I would respect them more if they just said they need $5,000 over MSRP. And that's just the stuff they are telling you about. Just wait until you try to finalize everything.

Those numbers are for no discount and no incentives. Working on that part right now.

I have to lease the car because I own a business and can pay with pre-tax dollars but just wanted to give you guys some recent numbers.
Does your state require taxes up front?

I wouldn't buy it with all those required extras.

If looking for a contact in AZ, I have one for Chapman BMW in Chandler. Doesn't look like the specs you put here matches to what they have listed on their site right now though so perhaps you are looking at a different dealer in AZ.

Unfortunately yes, but only on the portion of the car that depreciates during the term of the lease. And then you have to pay again on the residual if you buy it at the end of the lease.

In that case you are not paying "again." (I hear people say a lot that you pay taxes twice in a lease-then-buy situation.) You are paying tax once on the initial deprecation and you are paying tax once on the residual value. Since depreciation + residual = original purchase price, overall you are paying the same amount of tax as if you purchased the vehicle initially.

This math varies by state.

Thank you everyone for your feedback here. I've decided not to move forward with the deal and will put in an order for a '22 model instead.

Excellent, thanks. M3 MxDrive would have to be a 2022 so the dealer basically confirmed that 0.9% is available on the M3 at least. No doubt it should be on the M4s as well.

Since it's good for 60 days I'm going to wait until my car is at port, maybe even on a boat, before I start putting in my applications. I don't want to have to run my credit again given all the unknowns on stop orders, ship delays, VPC delays, etc. My safest bet may be to still do it before August 2nd when the current incentives & rates are up for renewal or expiration.

Is anyone's payment in the 8's? He doesn't care about options.. Probably 4k down at the most.

Doubt it. That would be a big discount off msrp plus additional incentives. If he waits a year, he may be able to get a discount but the extra $8,000 for his current car goes away probably making it a worse deal

In the 8s with $4k down? Highly doubt it.

I just did the application, because my guy said I could rate lock it. I'm betting that the rate would go up in the future because of everything, plus the last money factor was lower than the current one. But yours way may be the better play if it goes down.

You are absolutely right, I didn't mean to imply double taxation. I just meant I have to again pay an amount additional to the price quoted as a residual when I purchase the car.

Sorry if I gave that impression. As much as I hate taxes, the situation is fair.

Yeah, I'm glad you jumped ship on that one. You had me sweating. $89k $5k down for $1,292 a month. Sheesh. My car is $102,550 and I'm hoping my payment isn't over $1,300-$1,400

I'm hoping on highways we'll be able to blow that number away. My F82 got 30+ MPG coasting anywhere from 65-85 MPH. City or windy country roads was a different matter for sure; 12-14 MPG.
