Lexus made several changes including reduced weight by hundreds of pounds compared to the normal RCF. Carbon Ceramic brakes, Aerodynamics from the Lexus GT3 race car, enhanced suspension etc etc. Yet this car has performed poorly on the track for all the hype bestowed on it. That to me outshines every other attribute about this car.

RC-F was dynamically uncompetitive when it came out. They cobbled together 3 different platforms to save costs (IS, IS convertible, GS) but the result is an overweight car with poor handling and useless rear seats.
The main advantages are reliability, NA V8 sound, and comfort. It's a good car for a small set of buyers but not most enthusiasts. |

now what is really interesting is how these two cars are similar.
S58 in the Toyota and the BMW styling was done by Toyota. Now this is explained. The JDM M3. Also saw both the LEx and the M3/M4 in person. It is far worse in person than in the 2D pics w iPhone. The carbon bucket seats look nice but when you look at the bottom part the fabric slides and bunches up like dirty old man underwear. Fruit of the looms day to you. |

I think the hate for the straight pipes has to do with the outcome of the review lol. Normally nobody here says they hate them . That M2CS review got lots of praise now all of a sudden everybody can't stand them lol

I like them still. Like all reviews it's just an opinion and if you follow these two you would know they like Lexus cars more than Germans. It's their preference and I don't think that's a big deal.

God forbid someone criticizes an attribute about a car before some people lose their shit. It's ok for a car to have faults, it's those idiosyncrasies that make it unique and memorable. Like the stupid runny egg lights on the Porsche 996 which now people are into. Guaranteed people will look back on this RCF and sing praises about the v8 and it being the first and last Japanese muscle car. Just like people will look back at this m3 and sing praises about its usability and trackability. The grill is fucking stupid, along with some other interior and exterior bits that not everyone will be into. It's true of every car. Embrace the flaws and chill out. It's like some weird collective insecurity w/ some folks. |

I actually think the RCF looks chunky and bland.
The M3's face is...unconventional. But the overall package is far more attractive than the RCF. On a side note, I'm really looking forward to driving a G8X. So far the G20s I've driven seem enormously capable but have so much mass. I feel like I'm carrying a bunch of heft around. The Lexus IS on the other hand is the right size for a sport sedan.

The only valuable takeaways from this video are that all turbo engines still sound poor compared to a good NA engine, and the Toyota V8 performs better than expected.

Yep, 50% of the grille haters are F8x owners looking to feel better about their car (consciously or not) and the other 50% are people who weren't going to buy an M3/M4 anyway but love complaining.

There's a lady in my neighborhood with a black RC-F... agreed it looks better in person and the V8 is great... with that said, it's still not a car I would spend my own money on. If they brought back the IS-F, though (a proper IS-F, not the IS500 they just announced) I might be tempted.

Here's my exposure to SPs - G8X initial "review" (it was palatable because I was starved for content) and this. This channel just isn't for me but if I ever need a sun visor review, I know where to find one... |

Here's a take: The SPs guys made clear and thanked both BMW and Lexus for giving them the cars to test drive. From a political perspective, they had to show some love to the Lexus. It seemed like participation trophies being handed out for best dressed at a track meet.
I saw my first M4 in the wild yesterday approaching in the opposite direction, it's got loads of road presence. It just looks different (and good to me) on the road. |

I actually was an early bird buyer of a maxed out 2015 RCF before my current run in with an M4 ZCP, now M4 CS.
So speaking from 25k miles in the Lex and about 35k miles in the M4s. No YouTube journalist, one night stand type influencer anecdotes here. TLdR: One can appreciate both *RCF is definitely more of a low volume relaxed/GT drive than the 2018+ M4. It comes down to fundamental design goal differences. Fast enough automatic v raucous dual clutch. Silky smooth V8 v high strung twin scroll turbos. Lexus reliability v BMW Motorsport. Avant-garde Japanese aesthetic to establish a new F brand identity v rooted in M for many decades of curated design history. *You can wind out the NA V8 and sit in high revs without completely feeling like you're going straight to county jail. The S55 is such a sledge hammer in comparison; heavy metal to the 2UR's Symphony No. 9. *My hot take is the RCF V8 not only sounds better, but is an outright more desirable engine than the S65. I outfitted the RCF with a JDM brand exhaust. I ran the M4 with a Remus + AA mid-pipe. While I appreciate the distinctive S55 noise esp with aftermarket parts, the 2UR takes the cake. Add the mellifluous intake noise to supplement what's coming out from the back = horrifically under-repped aural sensation. It sounds better than a similarly modified S65. *RCF upshifts are PDK fast and seamless (they've been doing this since the beloved ISF), but it's the downshifts where you really feel the torque converter delay. M-DCT is fast up and down and can be made to be neck snapping with the press of a button. Daily driving is a wash. I reject any reviewer saying the M-DCT is somehow less desirable than a regular auto around town. M-DCT is an incredible transmission that I wish BMW further evolved in the G8X. Little known fact: Ferrari approached Biermann at BMW M to use his M-DCT when they were looking to make a move from their sht 360/430 single clutch. M told them to go kick rocks. I'd totally rock the RCF TE if I didn't have my CS. It offers its own unique drive and look. We are talking big panels of LFA quality carbon fiber here made not in Czech, Italy or China, but straight outta Toyota's best manufacturing facilities and tools in Japan. This is what you're paying for. Some appreciate, many don't care about such details. A properly modded RCF is a super rare bird, but when you do see one rolling, it's jaw-dropping alluring. There's a lot more to say so maybe someday I'll start a YouTube channel myself to inject some much needed discernment in a world full of lemmings.
