Tyre depth difference across axles?
Got a puncture and needed a new tyre. Does it matter what the tyre depth difference is across the axles like older xDrive? The new tyre is 8mm the old 5.4mm am I gonna have to purchase another new tyre to have new across the axle?

I had an unrepairable puncture in a rear-right after only 6k miles from new on my G82 - I replaced both rear tyres at the same time to maintain tread depth consistency (side benefit was swapping out Pirelli P Zero for PS4S about 15k miles early!)

Spoke to BMW this morning and the answer is yes, no more than 2mm diff across the axle.

I managed to repair one of my Pirellis with the basic repair kits that you buy at an auto-shop. Figured I'd try that even though you're supposed to replace since I've never had issues with the repairs that aren't in the sidewall; runflat or not (probably done this 4-5 times in the last 10 years).
Tires have about 10,000 km since the repair.

Wow, 2 mm. Not saying that’s incorrect but would like to see that in writing.
Could eBay a used tire unless you just want to buy two new tires. While I think the Pirelli’s are fine, I prefer the Michelins and would swap so buying two new Pirelli’s (in my case) wouldn’t be my solution. |
