I’m considering unlocking the DME on my G82. Is there an alternative to sending the DME overseas? I was hoping to see if there is a new device or software we can get and do this from the comfort of our own garages.

Not at the moment. femto have completely monopolised the DME unlock game and are keeping a tight grasp on it. Given the sheer amount of money they're making, there's absolutely no incentive to make it more widely available and there's no one that's been able to do it stateside or anything.

I did the unlock early summer of 2023 and have no regrets, especially since I got CustomROM with bootmod3. But if you're going to wait for a stateside unlock then I would not hold my breath. Send it to femto, get it unlocked, and enjoy the power the S58 has to offer. A bit of ethanol completely wakes the car up. The only thing to be aware of is the fact that you will need to send the DME in again if you want rev2 from bootmod3 (confirmed by femto themselves), so if you're wanting to go port injection and would like the DME to fully control fueling through the port, then you'll have to wait until PTF offers it. If not, you can get CustomROM now and use a port controller like Motiv's ReFlex or MaxxECU.

Femto is the only way and given that the platform is in its last years, I don't see another company investing their time and money on the unlock now.

Who knows if this is even a legit unlock. They keep your car for two weeks. For all you know they could be shipping your dme to femto and charging more. Also the post above mention there’s a possibility that something could go wrong that you would have to pay for a new dme kind of sounds like if it gets lost in shipping your buying a new one. I know nothing about the company, but that sounds like a long turnaround time if they truely can unlock a dme.

Very interesting, is there a date for that rev2? I rather wait for it to make the best out of it.

Unfortunately not. As per PTF, and I paraphrase: it'll get here when it gets here. But again, this is more of a bigger deal if you're looking to do port injection. If you're going to be happy with a custom 93 tune, or an E30 tune, you really don't need the rev2 board as that will allow the DME to control port fueling rather than a secondary port controller (Reflex/MaxxECU). Many have been using Motiv's ReFlex with minimal to no issues, and the MaxxECU is relatively new so we'll see how that pans out, but it's not as if you're shooting yourself in the foot by getting the unlock now if the rev2 board comes out next month. It's when you go big single turbo, or upgraded turbos, or are pushing boundaries

Does anyone know if I can purchase an used DME, send it to unlock and install it on my M4? The idea is to keep the factory DME stock.

Thanks in advance!

You can buy another DME. They will clone ur original DME and unlock the one u purchased. FEMTO can do that for u.

N55 came out in 2009 and I remember the only way to unlock was bench unlock until 2018

As soon as PTF released its flash, it became widely available across various platforms. I don't see PTF making that same mistake.
