Carbahn
I just hit 3000 miles on my m3 comp xdrive. It's seems everyone got piggy back software or have their DME unlocked then tuned. Do anyone worry about warranty issues and the cost of problems ? Iam really wanting more power but afraid of voiding my warranty. Carbahn is thr company in mind . What's tall thoughts ?

You need to do a search on this tune. Two forum members have been gracious enough to post dyno sheets. Study those well so you can see exactly where the Carbahn tune makes the power.
Just one man's opinion - but the S58 is stout and most minor/moderate tunes don't stress the platform. Carbahn's tune does not really stress the S58 that much. It was an easy call to add a warranty for something that is remotely needed. JMHO. |

Hundreds of thousands of tuned cars are on the market; if the warranty were an issue, this forum would be filled with those types of threads. In reality, you'd be pressed to find 1 of these threads.
If your aftermarket upgrade caused damage, you should expect to pay for it. your dealership will still cover other warranty-related services. If you pick a proven tune and run the recommended map, it won't cause any damage, and you'd save yourself thousands of dollars

if you are after a piggyback, get the JB4
if you want a flash tune, get the bootmod3 if you are new to this, the Jb4 is an excellent starting point.

Carbon in theory is a solid idea but it's quite expensive since you can't handle the install yourself; it must be done by one of their authorized dealers. I've yet to see anyone with a warranty issue to see how they handle it; chances are they would try to muzzle the person unless things went sideways. No news is good news.
JB4. You have a chance of still having a warranty. I install mine 500 miles before dealer visits and as long as it's not the motor they'll replace it. I had a trans replaced on my f80 which had a jb4. If you're very concerned about warranty there's other stuff you can do to mod the car that's easily reversible. No matter what you do the car will feel slow again within a month. My s2000 traps in the 140s and it doesn't phase me anymore. Another Tuesday. |

My view is that these cars are extremely stout and reliable thus far, even at power levels far exceeding Carbahn's tunes. That said, I would only tune assuming one can afford the cost should the worst happen. It's highly unlikely, but it's worth consideration.

If you’re super duper worried and just want a little more power, unlock and run all the CS/CSL tunes for both trans and engine. That’s all BMW calibrations and keeps power below the threshold of what the S58 can do even with a stage 1 tune, which that in itself doesn’t stress the motor unless a complete idiot tuned it.

Agreed, but a little peace of mind is nice for some. It can make dealership warranty work easier too. Some are quick to blame unrelated parts on a tune. My reply would be “call carbahn.” Let them deal with it.

Jb4 $799 Bluetooth connect kit $150 install $150 total $1099 bm3 $595 femto $900 shipping $350 rental car for 1 week $300 total $2145 the best option in my opinion is bootmod3 but if you the customer does not want to deal with the headache that might come from sending the DME overseas, the JB4 is the next best thing. i would not both with any other tune

Proper tuning, a piggyback will never give you… I don’t care how smart or integrated they get. Anyone concerned about reliability and safety and considering a piggyback might as well just save their money. When flashing is available, ALWAYS go that route. Bullshit sensor trickery is just that… doesn’t matter how it’s done. If I was a manufacturer, I’d void your warranty on a piggyback quicker than I would on a flash, as long as that flash wasn’t from some no name bs tuner or was a custom (on the edge) tune. If you came in with a reliable base staged flash, I’d be looking at other failure points for issues before pointing fingers at just the reflashed ECU.
So far, no one’s blown an S58 from OTS flash maps to my knowledge. Not a lot to worry about in that regard. Even BMW is leaving a lot on the table power wise with their factory CS(L) tunes. The S58 is pretty stout… finally. |
