Do you have a significant single turbo conversion? Hybrid twins? Port fuel injection? Other major modifications? Live at 10,000 ft elevation? The standard JB4 maps plus the boost limiting in 1st and 2nd gear are going to work well for most people until you really need/want the customization ability of map6. If you have a specific goal for you car, get with the BMS guys for some advice on best way to achieve it using map6. Just copying someone else's map6 settings is not what you want to do.
I'll start with your last sentence regarding copying other people's maps.

ABSOLUTELY! I cannot stress this enough; this is a bad idea.

Regarding the goal with map 6, im running map two modified with E40 mix. I feel the car can still make more power safely by adding 1-3 more PSI on certain RPM

I cannot go with higher maps because I do not want to add more boost on all RPM ranges, just the midrange.

I like seeing other peoples map 6 to get an idea of how they are tuning and matching the 0-100 and 100-200 results.

Not to copy.

No disrespect, but you should not mess with the custom map if you need a tutorial.

Only use map six if you are familiar with tuning and the JB4. Lots can go wrong with this map.

Thanks for the advise. I am very hands on, always learning new things. Tuning is one of my areas of opportunity and I would love to learn more. As a mechanical engineer, I have no issues with the physical portion of tearing apart a car and putting it back together, it’s the tuning aspect that I am very interested in learning.

Is there a course that you recommend to get me started?

The Supra MKV forum has tons of information on JB4 tuning for the B58 platform. The specific numbers differ but the concepts are still valid.

Also look at https://www.jb4tech.com/forum/model-specific-engine-tuning-modification-discussion/n54/support-log-review-ab/4229-jb4-duty-bias-ff-tuning-info/page4 again differrent platform but the concepts apply.

As far as I know, there isn't an online course dedicated to BMW Jb4 tuning. Your best bet is to read extensively on the forums and be cautious with your own tuning.

start by familiarizing yourself with JB4 datalogging. There's a thread from about 10 years ago that does a great job breaking down the meaning of each data point and acceptable values. This could serve as a solid start for understanding the basics of JB4 tuning.

Thanks, Mike.
I will start slowly. I recently installed the flex fuel… one tweak at a time.

On my past S55 and S63, I had custom tunes done for those motors through a reputable tuner. Review of data logs, revisions, communication about goals.

Does anyone like this exist for JB4 Map 6 on a locked S58? Like a Paul Johnson, or a Bend Calibration, etc? So far I just have a buncha randos reaching out to me on facebook offering their tuning services lol. Seems a bit sketch.

BMS support is unmatched and will gladly read your logs and recommend settings. You can only do so much configuring a piggyback, so it doesn’t warrant tuning specialists like you have with unlock - especially when you offer support.

+1

They are the only tuning company that will do all this extra work for free.

Their job is to help recommend settings on their off-the-shelf maps and let you know whether the map you chose suits your setup and fuel.

Once you start custom tuning and pushing the car outside the limits of their off the shelf maps, their support will be limited.

Got it, thank you! I appreciate the information.
I'll likely just keep running the OTS Jb4 maps until I eventually capitulate and send my DME off to Femto.
