Just out of curiosity who is hating on AWD? Especially with this car. You can turn it off anytime you want. I haven’t seen anybody hating it.

Search the forums. A lot of people hating on the weight addition of AWD to "an already heavy car"

Doubtful, this car will probably have enough power to do AWD burnouts. Plus spring for the xDrive, because you have the option. AWD, AWD Sport, rear biased, and 2WD. You have every option.

I just dont think there is enough time to explain it to someone who only sees AWD as something you take to the snow.

Like I said in my original post, very little. It would be more dead weight, if anything. The transfer case would be virtually disconnected. AWD means full time, wheel connected AWD. This car isn't that. If it was, you wouldn't be running staggered size tires, it would burn out the differential.

This is 100%. I tuned AWD Eclipses, Talons, and Evos, for years, that were as fast as this car is, stock. This AWD system is leagues ahead of anything I had back in the day. I just enjoy AWD with this much power. Its just so compliant. And if you want to drift it a little, thats what 2WD and AWD Sport it for.

Man, you know life must not be too hard when some people have enough spare energy to "hate" on other people's $80k expenditures.

If you like it, get it. If you don't, then get something else. Sometimes life isn't complicated.

As for the 0-60 times...I don't think anyone is surprised.

Think again, even if the transfer case is disconnected from the engine, all of the AWD components get rotated by the wheels.

And I am not hating on AWD, the two cars in my driveway are AWD. We just need to be realistic of the pros and cons.

ok guys.....no matter if it's better RWD or AWD.

I went for the Xdrive because I like a more "clean" drive. I've a RWD M140i LSD and even if I had the occasion to make several courses both with BMW and Porsche on the track here in Italy, over a certain number of HP, it's better to have an AWD. On the track, a RWD is more fun for sure. But on evereday roads, an AWD is better to me, especially with more than 500 hp. But it's my opinion, I'm sure that the G80 RWD is such a machine to drive, and maybe even more fun, but I bought it for a specific use, and the xdrive is the best solution for what i'm looking for.

Goddamn! I posted in another thread that due to unfortunate (or maybe fortunate) circumstances I’ll be ordering another M3 Comp and had the choice but would probably still stick with RWD. I mentioned the performance increase not being worth it but seeing this thread completely changed my mind. I was worried it would lose some of the fun handling dynamics but researching more about the M xDrive system they’re using here it’s clear it’s not just your average 330i xDrive.

My question is.. is 4WD sport enough for it to be a fun daily driving experience and still launch fast from a stoplight? I believe it’s RWD bias till it needs the extra traction correct? So is regular 4WD for maximum reaction then (e.g. for rain / snow)? And if so is 2WD really just for drifting or is that the mode you want to be in for the most spirited daily driving? And if you don’t care about drifting at all is it still necessary to get the M Drive Professional mode to configure the 2WD or not?

Can't speak for the G8x, but even in my m340i with xdrive, I can easily kick the rear end out if I'm motivated to. BMW's xdrive is tuned for fun it seems, so I can only imagine it being even more so in the G8x.

Good to know. So I wonder if the M Drive Professional is worth it for someone who just plans to daily drive this thing and rarely take it to the track. I might just add it on anyways since it’s only $900, but I never even messed with it on my RWD so just feels like it might be a waste.. just don’t want to feel like I’m missing out either

In my experience, if there aren't budgetary issues, and you're on the fence about a feature.... just add it on. Over the next several years (or however long you plan on having the car), if you ever get to a point where that feature comes in handy and you haven't optioned it out... you will regret it.

Agreed, I have multiple time slips from an NHRA track that correspond with my Dragy runs, and they are damn near matching. Amazing how this little device can be as accurate as it is.

1st gear launch helps as well with xdrive being able to put the power down vs 2nd gear in the rwd versions.

Nice results, and this car barely have 200 miles on the clock. It'll probably return slightly better times after couple thousand miles and break in service.

To be fair, the model 3 performance doesn't need any special prep for its 3 second times. The BMW took multiple tries at a drag strip.

The BMW is a much better car (which is why I swapped my Model 3 P for it), but don't go expecting to smoke M3Ps with your x-drive at random red light pulls.
