Canaut, what’s your take on taking awd car to the track after driving rwd m4 for several years?
Any transfer case issues? Overheating, limp modes? How is the steering feel in general? More understeer?

I do not see any issue. BMW ///M is known for building cars that can endure the abuses of track use very well, I don’t see why it should be any different with the AWD versions. My understanding is that the ///M AWD is only part time, engaging the front wheels only when needed, so it has a behaviour that mimics RWD. However, based on my experience driving an F90 M5 on track, when the front wheels do engage, there can be a bit more propensity to understeer. The extra weight and front weight bias also are a small detriment. I have not driven a G8X on track, it is quite possible BMW further developed the AWD system to make it even more seamless. On my AWD 992 turbo, I can barely perceive the pull of the front wheels and can get very good power on rotation coming out if corners. While performanceAWD systems dont quite offer the driving purity of a real RWD, they are getting better and better.

BMW put a new oil cooling system on the fwd engagement clutch so that they do not over-engage due to heat. I haven’t driven the m3 on the track, but i took an m5 out and it only had a small propensity to push after a few laps. You could definitely feel the front wheels pull it out of a tight corner though.

In a RWD g80 now and I don't miss the xdrive. The g80 hooks up great and it feels awesome to drive. I'm just not worried about the slower launches, I don't race people from stoplights.

Not sure why anyone outside of those who drag race or plan to tune would trade in the RWD an for AWD. (I understand ticking the box from the start though).

Plus we don't know what you lose in the AWD yet. Maybe very little, or maybe a bit more in handling or 60-120 etc. we'll see.

After I got the 3 sec launches out of my system in the f90 I didn't care if the kid in the mustang beat me.. let him go tell his friends he's faster than an M5
What kind of Mustang could beat your F90 off the line, even if you don't try hard enough?

problem is that you would have to be on boost and launch control to match the model 3 ... but I guess it's closer than before

would be nice to see a real life G80 vs M3P i guess it will come out sooner or later
