Have there been any upgrades/updates since release?
Featured on BIMMERPOST.com I'm wondering, have there been any upgrades or changes since the 2021 I should be aware of? Is the 2021 the same as the 2022? Is the 2022 the same as the 2023? Is the 2023 the same as the 2024? Thanks, |

Here’s what you should go online and research:
iDrive 7 vs 8 Parts decontenting (newer model years may be missing things) due to parts shortage at various points |

the 2023+ they starting cutting corners on the interior. for example with the standard leather, the 2023+ cars no longer have leather on the side doors. It's just like a black material. The old cars had leather which I think is ridiculous that a 100k car door has no leather standard. If you want that leather back you gotta pay $2550 to upgrade from extended to full leather. otherwise mechanically/dynamically they are pretty much identical

Honestly, some 2021s & 2022s aren’t even the same as others produced in those years. That was high time for part shortages and some items were deleted during production months while they then returned later in the production run.
As for big changes, as others have stated, the major one is iDrive 7 vs iDrive 8 and the corresponding change in screens.

They’re different hardware. iDrive 8 is the new curved flat panel, and iD7 is the old style with the separate sections for speedometer/tachometer infotainment. So no, it’s not something that can be “flashed”.

They removed the touch functionality from the iDrive controller, WiFi charging was removed and restored as an option, parking assistance package was removed from the Build Your Own section of the website event though it was available, so a lot of people either didn’t know it existed or were told it was unavailable by their dealers. Little stuff like that, but I can’t remember any others. |

Things you may or may not have across model years:
- laser lights (became a separate option in 2022 MY, and people ordering early with the 2021 ordering guide as reference didn’t get the memo) - auto-retracting seatbelts - leather on door top - color of leather on door (black vs. interior leather color) - badging on door sills - badging on center console - iDrive version - wireless charging - xDrive vs not (started only in 2022 model year) - parking assistance package - Michelin vs pirelli (random draw) - seatbelt M color stitching (mostly a base model problem) - active sound design (varies by software version but will normalize by getting updated to latest)

What baffles me is that BMW offers the replacement piece for the console but stopped making the "competition" door sills? Why? That's a piece that's eventually going to get worn out. Every time someone gets in may car they either scrape their dirty shoes on it or they step on my side skirt like a truck.
BMW drives me crazy. |

Can't forget the individual interior colors losing the color coordinated carpet edge piping on the floor mats for 2023. Also read that the '23 cars had less dampening material installed in the front wheel wells versus previous years.
