A 911 has lots of traction from a dig from all that weight on the rear. Once rolling, the G8X will more than likely pull away from a base 992.

The Cayman would inevitably mean having to drive the second car more frequently, and I couldn't bring myself to drive the XC60 more than I currently do. It sucks the joy out of life (although I'm quite comfortable while it's doing that!). Hence, Cayman means also replacing the XC60 with something like an X3 M40i.
Understood.

Journalists talk about how agile and sporty the car feels compared to the lighter F80, so TBD on driving impressions. Maybe it masks the weight well?

Heavy sports cars are typically awful to drive, but maybe the engineering has progressed to compensate.
Some of the Alpha love, I suspect, is due to the steering. Very, very good steering adds a LOT to how engaging a car is to drive. I've also heard the suspension tuning is pretty lights out. The downsides of the Alpha are equally well known.

Agreed. A base 992 only traps like 120-121 whereas the 992S traps 125/126 so I think the M3/4 will reside between the two; faster than the base but slower than the S. The S really shines on and off track with that PDK box.
I realized at the first track event I got to do in my GT4 that as much as I love driving a good manual like the GT4, I much prefer the experience of PDK on track.

If it were a subtle gain, then I understand this post, but it gained a lot of weight, especially if you had an early F80. Weight on sports cars is detrimental to fun and enjoyment, IMO, even on spirited drives away from the race track. If I have a passenger or 2 in any of my cars, I can feel it during cornering, braking, and acceleration.

Heavy sports car can drive ok, but not great. There's a reason Porsche puts a lot of focus on weight.
I am talking about head to head battles against the lighter F80. The Alfa was always thought to be the better drive even with an additional 300lbs of additional weight. That gives me hope for our hefty G80

Where did you get that from? That's 3300 lbs roughly. Alfa wishes it was that light. Lmao.

Now that you mention it I might be wrong... maybe 1500kg is for the 4 cylinder... Not really into Alpha cars as they fall apart like a chinese copy of an iPhone

I actually enjoyed mine a lot. Main reason why I sold it was due to terrible dealer service department and only 1 for the entire city.

For example, C&D weighed their 6MT M3 at 3,580lb, an actual data point, which is less than the 3,625lb you quote.

A few more data points, my own personal cars put on corner weighing scales (all weighed with 95%+ fuel):
  • 3,551lb 2002 E46 M3 6MT
  • 3,718lb 2008 E92 M3 DCT
  • 3,588lb 2015 F82 M4 DCT
  • 3,528lb 2019 F82 M4cs DCT

I guess we'll have to wait and see when independent publications start putting the G8X on scales. We can only hope they come out lighter than the press release numbers.
That is impressive

For me the G80 only makes sense with xDrive, or it will have the C63 AMG syndrome and will drift and not put that power down. But damn, at about 4200lbs with xDrive this is SUV territory! I’ve followed this forum for a while now and my expectations were rocked by the sheer weight of the thing. I actually like the looks, and I'm absolutely not bothered by the huge grills etc., but the weight of this behemoth is absolutely staggering. I understand that the M division does their best to soup up whatever they are given, but at this weight let's not beat around the bush - it is a proper pig! At around 4200lbs this is almost 400lbs heavier than the Nissan GTR. I mean it is knocking on the door of the M5’s weight!

At about 4350lbs, the X4M Competition clocks the 1/4 mile at 117mph tops. The M3 xDrive should do it at around 120 to 122 mph so that's not faster than the F80 M3 CS.

Why on earth is it this car so heavy? The G20 M340i is lighter than the F30 340i, and the F80 was lighter than the E90 M3.
