I'll be purchasing a new car in 2022 and this would top my list if it was available.

I'd go with the Touring for sure, it'll be a great fit next to the coupes and roadster in my garage.

I understand that I probably wouldn't be able to pick 6MT which is a shame, but I'd still take it.

Make mine in Sao Paulo Yellow with a black interior

Unfortunately I suspect that BMW will only offer this with a automatic transmission. If two miracles were to happen - first, that BMW will actually produce any of these with a MT (which, if the G80/2 is the blueprint, means RWD only), and second, that BMW will actually sends some to NA, I'm in...

I'm sure its been said a million times before but Audi and merc have fast wagons. Why would BMW want to let them dominate that space? I would take an M3 estate and love every minute of it. The variations of how people mod them would be super fun to watch as well. I'd keep mine low and OEM plus but others might add a slight lift and start messing with the Subaru guys. What a beast that thing could be!

Those who are voting may also may consider if you would get a wagon if there was no option to lease.

You have to just buy or finance. Maybe that helps bring it to the US?

Anyone from BMW NA who remotely has a chance of reading this thread could perhaps tell us what moves the needle for the business guys.

Wagons are less in demand than SUVs in general and perhaps the lease returns just sit in dealership and are loss making prospects for the CPO market.

If they bring a wagon here, I'd replace my X3 immediately. Better driving dynamics and practical storage for hauling stuff - sign me up

as someone who has been involved with this through another manufacturer.... you guys want to bring it to the US? You need loyal customers (WHO CAN AFFORD IT AND WILL BUY IT) to go to their dealers general managers and have them communicate it to the market team. if you have a large number of market teams that show a business need for the vehicle then BMW will entertain spending the boat load of money to put the car through USA DOT and NHTSA safety and crash testing. A change.org petition wont do anything.

When it comes to signing the papers, most of these interested buyers might look elsewhere but again I still do believe it would do better than you guys are expecting. BMW offered 5 series GT and 6 series GT in the US market and I don't remember them being top sellers at all. This car has so much more potential IMO. Also, before I forget, in terms of putting my money where my mouth is, if BMW were to confirm it will be offered for sale in the US market, I'm ready to put a non-refundable deposit to get in line today.
I don't really get it either. Gotta love the internet I guess. People here bemoaning what others like and trying to convince them why it makes no sense to like it. Happens every time wagons are mentioned (among other things, of course).

I guess we only get to get excited over threads of the same cars with different paint colors.

So much for an "enthusiasts" forum.

The low coupe takers are interesting...and I suspect the wagon is pulling from there more than sedan. Personally, I would go coupe or wagon, but not sedan or very. I think many coupe buyers like wagons for aesthetic reasons. It's odd, but it's my theory.

as someone who was on a waiting list for the rs6 avant I can assure you the car is not worth the money and the amg wagon looks dated and like a hearse

That would be another selling point for the G81. It would be significantly cheaper than an RS6 Avant or E63S Wagon. I personally really like both RS6 and E63S except for the price point (that V8 in E63S especially sounds glorious). I would only be interested in buying a used example of those two. Out of all three, G81 would be my first choice and I would go for a brand new one.

Also keep in mind that hardly anyone have seen these cars or driven them. Once people see them IRL next to each other I suspect the coupe percentage will increase from the current standings. Some who have seen the coupe IRL say it looks like a small M8. If that’s true I can see an advantage over the hot rod 3 series models.

Peter,
We all appreciate your efforts. Please let the group know what else we can do to make this a reality. It is imperative a manual transmission is mentioned with the reality of the wagon. I believe this part is essential.

Thanks,

J.

If BMWNA brings in the M3 Touring (Sportwagon) with the 6 speed manual, in to the US, I'll zip right down to the nearest BMW dealer (about 3 miles from my house) with my deposit. I WANT!!

When the M2 was still at rumors stage, there were a lot of discussions again on Bimmerpost about BMW possibly not offering the 6MT due to the low take rate. The main argument was "US buyers prefer AT so 6MT wouldn't sell here" and people went crazy on this forum explaining how much they want the 6MT option. Long story short, BMW listened and offered the M2 with 6MT here in the US, and US has been the country with the highest 6MT take rate. Not sure about the F80/F82 but 6MT numbers for those models have been really good too as far as I remember. I know this is quite different than simply offering another transmission choice but there is a slight chance BMW might be listening and it's worth the try IMO.

The hurdle to 6 MT is double. Scott explained that thw G81 is only planned as AT and AWD. No G8X is being offered with AWD and 6 MT.

So to offer it in MT they also need to offer it in RWD. If this is what is needed to get US buyers to sign on the dotted line it probably makes the likelihood below zero that we’ll see it here.

I agree! As much as I want a 6MT, I don't see it happening at all. It will be AWD and 8AT only but I'd still take one if it were to come to the US.

Hey BMW,

What if we, as an enthusiast community, agreed to stop complaining about the new grill design, would you bring the G81 stateside then?
