It has terrible feel. M xDrive PC (passenger car) works with this basic (read extremely over simplified) logic:

4WD: Bias 0/100 until rear longitudinal or lateral tire slip detected, 20/80 predictive bias based on speed, load, navigation data, KAFAS/LIDAR. Up to 100% can be sent to the front axle as needed.

4WD Sport: Bias 0/100 until rear tire slip or roll axis exceeds a predetermined threshold. Up to 100% can be sent to the front axle as needed. Above 200km/h, front axle is inhibited until roll axis exceeds a pre-determined threshold.

2WD: F/R distribution inhibited unless Pre-Crash is triggered.

One point of clarity... if I read this thread and the "upcoming models" thread correctly..

G83 = competition xdrive as the only drivetrain? No RWD convertibles?

911 is rear engine tho no slip to speak of off the line and 0-60 and 1/4 times are nearly identical in testing between C4S and C2S

Exactly, the bite from a dig is unreal with the engine pushing down over the rear axle.

Why I chose C2S over C4S. For 992 they have same exact body. Previous gens they had diff bodies.

Only diff obviously is awd and the 7300 cost for it. Never have traction issues didn't think 7300 worth it between the 2 when only diff is awd.

C2S is lighter too

Yeah, I preferred the wide body of the C4 in earlier generations but now it’s no longer part of the choice which is nice.

My dad raced rallye and motorcross when I was small. Watching his motorcross races (dirt track) he always took the start in his crazy beetle

Ah, you noticed the omission. There should be two G83 versions. However, I only see the comp xdrives in actual metal. So it's possible the other version was cut before production. But I just can't prove it yet.

Yes C2S is lighter so faster slightly. 60-130.
My point was a RWD front engine car vs awd has major differences off the line where 911 does not due to engine in rear.

I might have missed this, but will the AWD version debut next month too along with the base and zcp, or will we have to wait closer to SOP in July to get the details, see the stance, etc??

I don't think that's known with 100% certainty, but I would be very surprised if AWD gets anything more than a passing mention as an upcoming feature, if even that. They are going to want to build excitement for what can be ordered and taken home now, not what's coming in the second half of next year.

There likely isn't much info that would really be valuable from bmw other than the price premium.
I doubt there will be any way to tell an xdrive G8x from a RWD G8x.
-Stance will be the same (all Gchassis bmws have the same ride height for sport suspensions xdrive/rwd)
-I think it's possible they won't badge it xdrive, considering the m5 and m8 are xdrive but do not show xdrive badges. (The only difference here is those cars are xdrive only but I think they will keep the cleaner badging)
You can read the info on the Mxdrive from the m5 press releases it's more than likely this will be a copy/paste or small evolution of that system

The M5cs should give us who wait for more G8X AWD information a better look at what M Xdrive is capable of in a more track focused car. I’m looking forward to see the usual benchmark number aka ring time for that car. The G8X AWD with track package shouldn’t be that far behind on the ring. I suspect that M5cs M Xdrive tuning efforts has gone into the G8X.

Why is M xDrive not available until July 2021? I can't figure it out.

I know there are many purists here, but I bet the take rate for AWD will be double that of RWD, especially since M xDrive has a RWD mode as seen with the M5/M8. I know there will be a 100-150lbs weight penalty, but I’ll still take it.

If I had to guess it's marketing related, the idea of being able to focus the messaging on one element at a time. BMW seems to be heavily focusing the early messaging on the availability of a manual. (Early demo drives were manual, the first demo video of the track drive was a manual). So at launch they can talk about purity of rwd, manual as focused points. along with the auto, rwd for the competition models and whatever they have done to the auto to make it perform more like a DCT (note: not starting a discussion here on pros/cons keep that to the transmission thread, but it is a fact bmw marketing will be talking about it) Rather than having to dive into xdrive and answer questions comparing the two systems back and forth on day 1.

Maybe SCOTT26 can shed some light on the delayed intro...

Pricing will almost certainly map to the x3m/x4m so probably 7k premium for comp and maybe another 2k for xdrive
