This so many times over this, i remember when i went with the M-Performance exhaust on my 235i and having a manual back then in 2014-2015 driving in town and trying to chill but switching gears between 2-3 or 3-2 and the damn exhaust sounding like explosion scaring people dead. Made me feel a bit embarrassed tbh after that i actually started to dislike the burbles a bit, i mean it sounds good and quite alright if it is done right but for me i think the M-Performance exhaust on the 235i overdid it especially with the other mods i had on the car.

I don't see how this is the Performance exhaust. Sounds about the same as the other clips. Why couldn't it just be a competition "sport" exhaust or even just experimentation with different tip sizes? This is still basically a mule.

And still, wearing that nasty silver diaper.
It sounds ok, but there is a lot of variance between real life and video with most FI motors. We won't know for sure until we hear the NA Spec car.

Fake burbles are achieved by purposefully injecting a little fuel in the engine when off throttle, the unburnt fuel ignites in the exhaust causing the burbles.
"Real" burbles date from the era of carbureted engines, where there was no way of completely shutting down fuel flow when off throttle. In reality, burbles in an in-efficient way of tuning an engine.

Burble tunes produce real but artificial burbles; the ECU is "told" specifically to sprinkle in some extra sauce into the exhaust when you lift off. That is why most burbles nowadays sound exactly the same all the time.
Old cars with carbs had overrun burbles for days decades ago. Fuel mixture from the carb that goes past mostly closed throttle body on deceleration is not rich enough to burn in the cylinders so it goes through there into the hot exhaust where it explodes and thus creating burbles and other nonsense. But, too much of a lean mixture and you'd have a bad idle and an ill-running motor. Just like you shouldn't drink too much lean. Ofc CanAutM3 was faster to explain it.

What's funny is that noise limits for motorcycles seem to be rather non-existent. My street goes deaf whenever neighbours start up their stock sport bikes, and yet I can't have a loud car from factory.

Yes. We could be seeing one of these:
Base without OPF. Base with OPF. Comp without OPF. Comp with OPF. MPE without OPF. MPE with OPF. That one kinda unlikely, seeing as BMW has stopped selling MPE because of particulate filters and increased noise restrictions in Europe.

Burbles.. bu deff should only account to the "fake" or produced" burbles.. Old burbles aint burbles... its lack of fi Burbles is the term we created when im assuming the f type came out with this " exhaust note hack" Soo .. everyone clasifies real burble as accidental byproduct of carb engines?? Hmm 🤔

no matter what exhaust is used on the S58/S55 it won’t sound better. not sure if that relates to the intake design or what, anyway I don’t find it amusing unfortunately
A B58 sounds much better in comparison I believe the best sounding M3 is the S54 |

The traditional bulge/power dome isn't there but the hood "nostrils" will be more pronounced that those on the normal 4 series cars.. not sure what's in store for later iterations like the CS.

Define "best sounding".
I don't mind the exhaust note the S54 produces. It's unique. Some love the rasp, others hate it. I personally it doesn't bother me, but I also don't love it. However, the S54 engine alone sounds amazing, especially when you pair the induction noise with the OE CSL airbox, which IMO is the best induction noise of any mass produced car, ever. The e46 M3 was able to make up in induction noise what it lost in exhaust note. I was lucky enough to have one installed on my non-CSL e46 M3. The sound was spectacular! Videos don't do it justice. It's incredibly pronounced in person and can be heard blocks away when you rev high. I got more compliments on induction noise than any other mod. Ok, I'm going to stop now before I start tearing up My favorite (old) video that sold me on the sound: |
