Not sure what you mean. The F80 looks IMHO more distinguished compared to the F30 than all other M3 versions compared to its regular version except the E30 (the M4 is another story).
Yeah. I love the physical difference between the first and f30. Besides all that you described, the grills are also different. the f30 has rectangular grills which looks a bit weird, but man do I think f80/82 grills look so much better than the f30 does.

Touched up to be a little brighter.
See the diamond-shaped outline.

Big and tall grille worked for new 7 and X7, but not likely on the M3. We gotta wait before we hate anyways.

Went by the dealer and they new m330 next to a CS. Front grille on the G20 is non-functional and completely closed off. Looks funny to me.

They are very functional, they open and close as needed. Knowing the CSL intake flap motor well I wonder if they’ll fail as often too.

Learned something new. What's the point of making them open and close?

More aerodynamic when cooling isn't needed (i.e. cruising at low engine load). Thus increasing efficiency and reducing engine load even further, so it's a good idea. Like posters above mentioned, hopefully they don't break.

It's just a matter of time before someone comes up with 3rd party grills that stay open and trick the car into thinking they are in the correct mode so it doesn't trigger a fault. This probably means that replacement grills will be 2-3x the current cost of the existing ones. Which is dumb enough already considering it's just a piece of plastic.

German engineering is generally pretty damn good. German electronics, in my experience, not as much.

I really hope this new tall grill design works - if the grills are ugly this will singlehandedly stop a lot of people - including me - from even considering the G8x - no matter how great the car is otherwise.

Every M3/M4 ever made has always been a very good looking car - I cannot even fathom an ugly duckling M3//M4.

Until more camo is removed - I'm trying my best to remain as cautiously optimistic as I can...

When zooming out Scott26’s picture and the homage R picture someone posted to fill the screen it looks promisingly similar both but in outline and internal grill structure...

The M3 always inherits from the coupe and it makes the M car more distinctive and, frankly, better looking than the regular 3er in each generation, including hopefully the G80 generation.

The G20 look is boring IMO. So, I'm all for the G80 having a different and distinctive look. I’m not concerned with grill size or whatever other element of the car that may be bigger or smaller so long as the overall design sufficiently deviates from the blandness that is the G20 to make me want to buy it.

Although it's the 4er here. I have adjusted the contrast so you can see the outline of the Grille as it will be on the 4er/i4 and M3/M4.

If we look at this other shot the interplay of light and shadow illustrates the 4er will have very broad rear shoulders and be far more organic than the outgoing F32.
A sibling to THE 8.
