I have noticed that the M4 is quite a bit noisier with the sunroof open than my 5-er. I can see myself tilting more when driving on the highway or open roads.

Be careful there. I had a 2002 Camaro SS and took the T-tops out and drove to the shore. My hair was buzzed and I got the worst sunburn of my life! 😉

G82 wind buffeting is pretty good, slightly noisier than my F80 but even at highway speeds its quite pleasant unless its a stupid windy day, then I’ll sue tilt.

M3 and M4 Carbon roof is a must-have option. The sunroof is for your second car. Don't make this spec mistake like many have and later try workarounds to PPF the roof to get that look. The black looks roof looks perfect on any color.

I have the moonroof on my 2022 IOMG M4 and I use it. I also like that the roof matches the rest of the car. I also passed on the Shadowline trim option so my mirrors and rear spoiler are body color. Perfect spec with the Tartufo full leather interior.

Those are all my reasons to get a sunroof. The color matching metal roof instead of plastic that will get dull quite quickly. No Shadowline trim, the color-matched spoiler is the best. The mirror covers too. Piano black has been overused.

I appreciate your opinion! If it's only for looks, it is definitely very subjective. I am not attracted by the look of unpainted carbon fiber as much as many here. A color-matched roof is a bigger attraction for me. The picture you posted almost looks like a glass roof, almost seeing those orange seats through it. I must admit, it looks perfect when new and shiny, but it won't stay that for very long. But you can PPF it and it will be shiny for 10 years

For anyone who got a sunroof and is having second regrets, drive around for a week with the shade closed. That confirmed my choice anyways (…mostly)

The onther thing that I haven't seen mentioned in this thread is that it's really dependent on the color of the car. I spec'ed the sunroof on my IOMG G80 specifically because I don't like the CF roof with that color. The other color that I was considering was SPY, and I definitely would have done the CF roof with that color.

There is no must have option on someone else's car when they are speccing it, paying for it and using it.

This reminds me of the endless debate about how bucket seats on Porsche GT cars are "a must".

Wait, buckets on a GT car aren’t a must?

I have a sunroof and I drive 99% of the time with the shade closed. But it's that 1% when the weather is nice and opening the roof even for a short bit elevates the mood. So it's the matter of having it and not using it vs. wanting to have it but not having it.

I must say that IOMG with a CF roof looks great. Too British for a German car if you ask me, but there's another 80-page long discussion on that. Have you seen that Yellow in real life? It hurts my eyes. Dakar Yellow, on the other hand, is very gentle on the eyes, but costs $6,000, so probably not getting it. I love gray, so I ordered gray. A CF roof will look great with gray. Only if I had one compelling reason to get it.

People keep replying. In order to stop it, you must suggest at least one surefire reason for getting the CF roof for those who are planning to enjoy sunlight and air. Otherwise, if everybody just stop replying it will gradually go down in popularity. Meanwhile, I'm getting virtual awards for starting a popular discussion.

"Must-have" and "option" are mutually contradictive terms making "a must-have option" an oxymoron. Otherwise, the CF roof is a must-have only if purchasing the Driver's package and increasing the max speed, but it's no longer an option, it's a requirement.

Well, so far I am not convinced that a carbon fiber roof has a practical application for daily driving and tourism. The only reason I've seen that has a real value was expressed by people who had had sunroofs on all previous cars and decided to try something new for a change. How would one know if they had made the right decision if they never tried anything different.
Another reason I recently thought of that may be of real value is reducing the weight at the roof level for those who install cargo racks. Turns with a loaded roof cargo rack will be safer with ~65lbs less weight at the roof level.

Err, you’ve replied like 50 times….

What I’ve learned from all of this is that BMW, including the M brand, has continued to become more and more ‘mainstream’ and less enthusiast based. Nothing really wrong with that and certainly BMWs desire so that they sell more high priced vehicles.

Now, get off of my lawn.

I had to reply 50 times. I started this discussion. So, technically, you're on my lawn, which I don't mind as long as you trim it regularly .
However, I agree , the M brand is not the same as it was in the 90s. But it keeps the manual transmission alive. I'm not getting an automatic, so there aren't too many choices of quite reliable, reasonably priced, luxury, practical, 2+2, good-looking, spiritedly performing coupes with 6MT. Actually, I'm down to two. M2 and M4.

Think the M's with 2 or 3 letters after the number on the trunk are the true enthusiasts cars. The none & single letter cars are for those who want an exceptional performance car with all the nice doodads of a typical luxury car.

Offering both is just good marketing & helps keep the brand alive.

This!

No-one can say what anyone "must have" on their car. Must have is very subjective.
