I now have 10.000 kms on my car. (6000 miles) and today I looked at my oil cooler and it doesn't have a single mark. But in Europe we have a rubber lip in front of the oil cooler. Not sure it's the same in the US? Anyway I have done a lot of track time and hard driving so I'm glad everything is fine. Not saying it's not good to get some protection, but I just wanted to give an example where all is still fine.

Yes, that is present on all cars in all markets. It's an air dam, which lowers the air pressure right below the oil cooler, which in turn draws air down through the cooler.

With my Vorsteiner grille, I am also getting the mesh install, not sure if that’ll prevent anything but I just preferred that look.
I got the mesh for my grill and a small chunk of wood came off a truck and knocked my mesh out. If I didn't have the mesh, it may have took out radiator.

Good to know. You gotta love when something you like the looks of is also functional.
Had mine installed a week or so ago.

Sorry, which mesh was taken out the lower (horizontal) oil cooler mesh? And what brand was it that got knocked out?

I put the zunsport on. The mesh is very durable and solid. The mounting is not so confidence inspiring, but I’m sure it will suffice. The two front bolts hold it good. not a fan of the tiny screws into plastic, but it’s really there to just old it from vibrating.

I liked the idea of the $325 one from paul or whatever that guys name is in florida. Thats probably the best one to get except for the metal tab/brace hanging down. My car is lowered and I confirmed with others that the tab is the lowest point on the car. If that catches on a curb, it will be bad.. Thats the only reason I did not go with that version.

The zunsport is not the best mounting option, but I am confident the rigidity of the metal mesh will stop any rock. A 2x4 might knock the screen off, but at that point it probably protected the oil cooler before being yanked off.. LOL

It was the Vorsteiner mesh and it took out the top one. Of course the top has a plastic protector on it but at 80 mph, it may have done some damage. It was a nice size chunk but small enough to get through the opening.

To me any oil cooler guard that sits any lower than stock could be an issue. Many who use these lower their car. To protect the cooler they install a guard. If that guard hangs any lower what’s the point? Does not matter if it hangs 1”, 1/2” or 1/4”. You’ve just taken a lowered car and lowered it even further fitting a cooler guard. Just my opinion but seems counterintuitive🤷‍♂️

We go on 1,000+ mile road trips. The car isn’t lowered, but would hate to get stuck out in the middle of nowhere (or on the Verrazzano-Narrows Bridge) and have our road trip ruined.

I installed the Zunsport oil cooler guard today. The mesh feels durable and of good quality.
