Only hiccup now is there are only 2 19" 826Ms in the whole country, so I'm going to have to wait over a month to get the complete set shipped out from Germany. Unfortunately my tires had already shipped before I found out, otherwise I may have tried to go with larger rears. But the Alpin 5s don't seem to come in a larger size that isn't built for a Mercedes SUV. |

help a newbie!
Hi everyone, this is my first time having a car in cold weather. I have stock 826m (19F, 20R) on my g80. Is anyone keeping their stock wheels on and just getting winter tires? What am I missing here? Thanks for the help

Also, skinnier/smaller tires are generally better to cut through snow. Fat tires are not idea. This is why they recommend sizing down and narrower for your winter set. |

No idea, I'll try to find out. I thought that winter 18s fit the normal brakes, and that the stock 19s work for CCBs. Therefore, I expect that the 19 winter set will as well. That might be too rational, which is a character flaw of mine.

19 square setup will allow for better tire rotation. But back wheels will have more of a gap in wheel well vs 10.5 wide OE unless you add spacers. There are snow tire options for this setup. 19/20 staggered setup will look great for rear wheels but won't offer as much pothole protection with less sidewall in the rear and isn't the best if you get lots of snow (wider wheels like the summer setup). Sottozero is only snow tire option for this setup, I think. Kind of need to figure out your winter snow conditions and how you like the car to look to make the call. |

I always run separate winter wheel / summer setups but like everyone else, it's been more difficult this time around with these wheel sizes (finding tires isn't too bad) and 4-5k for the OEM option seems pretty steep. I'm by no means an expert, but it appears that one of the main issues might be backspacing to ensure zero complications with suspension components. If that's the case, that's probably why tire rack only has a single option and it's a +22mm offset (with stock being +20)
OEM Wheel sizes 824M: 9,5Jx18" IS20 / 10,5Jx19" IS20; 825M / 826M / 963M: 9,5Jx19" IS20 / 10,5Jx20" IS20; 1000M: 9,5Jx20" IS20 / 10,5Jx21" IS20; 829 M (winter wheel): 9,0Jx19" IS20 / 9,5Jx19" IS20 That said, it seems like there would be alot more options if you use a 19x9 wheel (instead of 19x9.5) along with 10mm spacers. I think that would allow for wheels with up to 35mm of offset which dramatically increases selection. Like I said, not an expert, just trying to work out options. Does what I said make sense, or am I missing something obvious?

Easy and guaranteed correct path is the BMW set. Might not be cheapest, but looks good and I don't have to spend time or energy over-thinking my off-season solution. Done. No longer an active problem.

I'll more than likely go with the OEM BMW set or the one that Forza posted above from TireRack, but figured I'd try to find something in the middle if not too complicated. Until these cars became a bit more common and some folks act as testers, you're right, having the peace of mind and lack of headaches is certainly worth quite a bit.

I was able to go into my local Costco and get the Michelin Alpin 5 for ~$1140 + tax, which is a killer deal! They said they have to order them in, but will get there in 3-5 days. You can't get them directly on the website as of now. FYI- the price includes a $120 rebate for the tires that he gave me. Beats the heck out of any prices I have found for good tires thusfar. |

Automotivestuff does seem shady based on reviews, I'll keep looking for another option and let you know if I find something. |
