If it wasn't for the rather broadly reported engine issues in the 5BW's LT4 V8, I would've have bought it instead of the M3 I'm waiting for now.

Same goes for the Alfa Romeo Giulia Quadrifoglio . with the added bonus of reliability issues . But this car is stunning tho imo Curious how's the tech on the BW compared to the M3 ?

Man, I wish we still got the Caddys in Europe. Manual 5BW would 100% be my kinda car.
Had a 2018 6th gen Camaro SS manual. That was an amazing driving experience, albeit unpractical for my use.

FWIW, my wife's 2024 X5 dropped a valve and destroyed the engine at 7500 miles, and I can assure you that it was not abused, stuff happens. Quote:
The tech... well, it's GM. It has - for me anyway - been reliable and less prone to weird issues like iDrive has always had for me. It is a little slow to boot up, there are annoying things like you can't browse for different tunes on the USB unless the car is not moving. I honestly have not tried voice recognition on it, and I can't remember the last time I used nav. The HUD is great. The instrument panel has many configuration options, I can see all of my important measurements right there on the IP including oil temperature & pressure, water, transmission temperatures, tire pressures and temperatures, some other stuff that I don't use, and different options for tachometer/speedometer. So from the driver's perspective, the tech is better. The biggest complaints from owners are the smallish side mirrors and the turn signal stalk is a bit higher than they would like. If that's all that they can find, I think that's pretty good. My biggest gripe is the lack of a spare tire, but that's pretty common these days (including on the G8x) and a smallish gas tank (around 18 gallons I think) and of course, the car doesn't get good gas mileage. Because 668 horsepower. I actually get about the same gas mileage on my commute as I did in my G82, so I'm not complaining. And it's soooooooooooo much more fun to drive!

You should just read more forums discussions for the CT5V. It’s not just C&D. It’s not normal to read about 10+ engines deaths that are all very similar on casual forums, which are a tiny fraction of the broader driver population, for a car with a much smaller sales volume than M3's, within a single model year.

I agree. Fingers crossed. You just can’t ignore the past with M motors always having a weak spot. I do feel this one is the GOAT though

Honestly, I think M motors are pretty reliable. Yes, some weak points, absolutely. But most all the issues are known and preventable. These CT5BW’s are blowing up randomly at different mileage. As someone else said, check out the forums and FB pages for these cars and there are most posts than I care to see.
Doesn’t stop me from wanting one, but I might pick one up with some decent mileage on it. |

I recently stepped foot into a '24 CT5V BW and have a few thoughts as well as one question.
Thoughts - looks-wise, the front end of the '24 pre facelift version looks more aggressive and I prefer it over the '25, but both still look good. However, I can't the seem to like the rear end as I find it looks meh, bland, and uninspiring. I really don't like the taillights for some reason. Also, decades of BMW/Hofmeister kinks have left me not wanting to even look at whatever Cadillac has going on at the c pillar.. looks really odd IMO. Interior fit and finish was great, but the '24 infotainment was about as bad as can be and nearly disqualified the car for me. The seats were supple and felt luxurious and the interior ambience was overall quite nice - expected given it's a 5 series competitor. My wife immediately lamented my old G80 as this CT5V BW had more rear seat amenities and more leg space. The Cadillac dealership I went to wasn't too helpful and their policies forbade me to take the car out on public roads. They have several '24 MY CT5V BW's on their lot and I thought sharing with them my current predicament (have a G80 6MT on order, wanted to try the CT5V BW as I recently found a new love for V8's and need a car ASAP) might assuage them and allow me to simply take it around the block - but nope, no such luck. I really wanted to feel the 1-2 shift as the G80's 1-2 shift really sucks even after a CDV delete but still, a quick drive around their parking lot left an impression and I can understand why people prefer the CT5V BW over any M car. The tremec feels loads better than the ZF derived 6 speed found in the G8X. The clutch felt springy yet predictable and I had no problems constantly lurching forward, pretending I was in NYC traffic. I won't be cancelling my G80 order, but I do have a better understanding of why some of you would jump to the CT5V BW. With the update to the interior, I can definitely say that it'd be a toss up between a G80 LCI and a refreshed CT5V BW for me. If I were to go through with an order, I wouldn't receive a 2025 CT5V BW until the middle of next year (if I'm lucky) but my G80 is already slated to be here around early November (I'm currently schlepping around in an uber and borrowing family members cars.. sooner = better). All that being said, my question is this: is reverse locked out after a certain speed? The gates are minimally spaced and I can easily imagine a scenario where I quick shift into reverse instead of 5th from 4th gear. I asked several people at the Caddy dealership.. no one knew. I'm sure the gearbox feels different at a higher speed but yeah, it was a point of contention.

Been a while since I posted here. The Blackwing was traded a few months back. While it is one of the most incredible sedans I’ve ever owned, I was itching for a capable NA car for too long. Even chewed on the idea of getting back into an E9x M3. Ended up in a 2020 GT350 Heritage Edition.
The GT350 is a car I’ve lusted after since 2015. So I said screw it, let’s go. I daily this thing, and it’s exhilarating. Slow as balls compared to the 5BW and G80, but the sound and revs compensate completely. Only recent picture I have next to my mistress (zero turn mower). The heritage 350 came in Wimbledon White. Incredible color. |

Had a fun year with it. While I think it was one of the most incredible cars I’ve driven, it lacked a bit of soul. While I owned the G80 and 5BW, I constantly tossed the idea around of getting back into an E9x. N/A V8s that rev high are my weakness.
Have been longing for a GT350 for years now. Figured it was a good time to try it out. Glorious car and engine. The Voodoo at WOT and 8k rpm is crack. |
