Jack stands are foolproof unless you cheap out. I recommend getting ESCO 3 ton jack stands, not the cheapest but I always hear good things about them.

Jackpoint jackstands are another great easy alternative where you don’t have to worry about the placement. I have the low profile option and I use a standard bmw universal puck.

we're all overlooking the best jack system .. the built-in pneumatic system like the M2 racecars from BMW lol. that's my dream solution.

I used the knock off Esco 3 tonners from Harbor Freight that I bought. Extremely solid and well built. I used the jack pad adapters on all 4 points with the rubber pad still on the jack. It just felt better with the jack pad vs just the rubber pad to me.

I have this jack. First saw it on Kies Motor Sports. This is low profile and has long reach. It's worth it.

You can be creative - my jack is not particularly low profile or long reach, but with stock suspension height works fine in the rear to get to the diff. For the front, I cut a couple lengths of 2x8 with a 45-degree bevel on one end and backed with non-slip drawer liner stapled on. I just drive up on that and it gives enough clearance.

If it doesn't reach with the handle all the way up, you can slide it over with the handle a bit tilted down, loosened. Rapid pump would make it not an issue pumping the jack up with it not at full range. That being said, I'm nearly 100% positive you can reach the front middle jack point with a regular one. I'll test it quickly later though, but the one I used in the past I'm nearly certain was not a long reach jack either. |

I actually have both of them and I prefer the long reach for getting to the center front and rear jacking points. It also has a higher max lift and it has a hand/foot pump which is nice when initially aligning it with the jack point. I think it’s easily worth the small premium especially since it is frequently on sale.
