I was expecting a hybrid, like the M5, except with i6 instead of V8 of course.
If it's electric, then I just hope it drives like an M3, and I'm not too worried. But BMW, if you are reading this, please allow for RWD mode and keep the 10-stage TC (or do something similar). I care way more about sticking my ass out than I do about acceleration figures.

Many states $100 per year is literally enough to register a brand new M3 every year in perpetuity. Just saying that this place is a ripoff. |

Yes there is. Despite having the highest income and sales taxes in the country, the state still can't get its act together on spending, so we have to pay absurd amounts for DMV fees. Have you ever looked into the breakdown of a traffic ticket? The actual fine for say 10-15 over is only $100-150. There's another $150-300 of BS added on to it. I last looked this about 5 years ago when I last got a shockingly cheap ticket at 10 over in the Eastern Sierras (it would have been nearly double in LA), so could be a bit dated, but I bet it holds true today.

2. Bye Felecia Hahaha I’ve lived in CA for over 40 years. Grew up here. I’ve traveled across almost every state in the US for work. Would I move? Probably. Almost pulled the trigger once but the sellers didn’t want to accept my “low ball offer” sheesh. Yes, reg fees may be higher here in CA but for someone who’s lived here for 25 years, there’s a lot of things in CA that are overpriced. C’mon. The roads here are not that bad. I’ve seen and felt worse. The sheer number of vehicles and trucks that move across our main arteries is also probably higher than some other states. Some states, from what I can recollect, also charge a higher sales tax or sellers tax on vehicles whereas in CA they don’t charge a sellers tax (I am probably stating the terminology incorrectly). |

Hence why the state is hemorrhaging people to TX, FL, etc. The state, despite their massive revenues from taxes, fees, and fines, still ran a huge budget deficit last year, lol. Got a parking ticket yesterday for $112. |

2) I think I know what you're talking about regarding sellers tax. They only make the seller pay capital gains tax if they sell the car for more than they bought it for (in CA). They do charge the new owner of a used vehicle their typical 10% tax though. That's why so many people lie on the title forms and say they sold their 20,000 mile F80 for "$7,000" lol |

I look forward in seeing what BMW M will bring to the table if there is a variant that will be all-electric. My concern will be cost as the current platform has really increased from the prior platform. I’m not saying that it’s a bad value, but I’m sure many configured models nearly tipped the scales close to $100k.
With the EV M, the introductory cost to play could surpass $100k just to get four wheels and a steering wheel. |

it never ceases to amaze me how many people respond to these things with "no way will I ever buy an EV" and "if we don't buy them they won't make them"
y'all are shouting at clouds you want to drive an ICE? buy one now and hang onto it. and drive it until they either stop selling gas or gas ends up at $25 a gallon. they're going away. and not just for passenger cars. when I was at Caterpillar in 2008 we were already working on phasing them out. for heavy duty purposes. trucks. mining equipment. trains. so don't tell me the small-dick F250 guys are gonna get to keep their ICEs. that's just ignorant. are they gonna be gone literally tomorrow? of course not. but we're closer than we've ever been. and it's happening. and your kids will never know the difference.

I like that EVs are becoming more popular, but in a way, I'm glad the G80 was so horrible looking and pushed me to a different brand - it makes the news of an electric M3 hurt a bit less.

What brand? I don’t know of any mainstream brand that is not headed in the same direction some way or another. Don’t say Porsche because they have an electric 911 variant being developed.

EV's are one of the biggest scams, and people should rebel against it, this is disgusting. M shouldn't be all electric, especially not the M3!!!

I mean there’s a physical product, growing infrastructure, and evidence of multi-brand adoption? Surely the heads of almost every single automotive corporation are not drinking the same Kool-Aid, or even from the same glass? Is it over hyped maybe? For sure. As with anything transformational and disruptive, there will be a constraint somewhere. Mainstream EV adoption hasn’t been around as long as ICE and still relatively infantile in the grand scheme of things. People don’t like change and are typically against it and while I can appreciate your opinion and many here’s dislike, I find the “scam” statement humorous. |

Most of theses new technologies were out in place to either meet new laws requirement or to chase numbers. This is a very popular tactics use by the ev crowd using numbers about acceleration times or power figures. Many times the most important factor of a car is how wide is your smile after driving it that should be the most important number. To summarize it let’s see what Gordon Murray has to say about it. https://www.caranddriver.com/feature...ray-t-50-tech/ How does that fit in this new landscape of supercar hybrids and electrics? The F1 was very analog, very involving. I wanted the T.50 to be like that, a driver's car. It has manual steering, but low-speed electric assist so you can park easily. A mechanical hand brake. The manual transmission. Room for suitcases. The customers for this car, they asked for these things. The other [hypercars], there's nobody just focusing on the driving, they are always chasing numbers, 1600 horsepower. You can disguise a two-ton car, but you can't change the laws of physics. |

And they're also likely to be worth quite a bit of money in the future, even with higher miles. |

It has a USB-C port know, truly revolutionary. Nothing informative or useful in my post, but this comment did remind me of how much hype used to surround Apple with Steve Jobs at the helm. |

It's a joke on the stereotype that those who buy M cars eventually move on to a 911.

We pay personal property tax on our car. Tax on my i4 this year is around $2,000 on the X3 it's like $400 or something like that. We get lower sales tax than other states but the tax man will get their money some how. |

The good news is that we have plenty of current generation or later-model analog cars to choose from, in all body shapes, from a variety of manufacturers. So pick the ones you love most, and buy them, NOW. Instead of us being grumpy about the future, we should be reveling in the present, and stockpiling our favorite cars in the next few years. The new & older Porsches, new & older BMWs, Camaros, Blackwings and older V models, Alfa Romeo Quads, Miata, BRZs, etc. - we're going to miss them when they're gone. And they're almost gone from production. Get 'em while you can, because it's a special experience that will be missed. The world will move on. Let's become those guys pulling their 50's and 60's hot rods out at Cars and Coffees across the country, because that will soon be us....remembering and treasuring the past.
