I got made fun of in another post asking about coding for the G8x cars so I've almost given up asking. But do you see a bit of commonality from the G2x that might carry over? Coding is one of my favorite aspects of BMW ownership and I've dug pretty deep into each series of car I've owned up until this point but it has all been based on guidance from others... |

So, yes, pulling out the cable and will be diving in when I get my car, since it seems like the G20 and G82 share the same basic electronics. I prefer using the cable, simply because it's faster...especially when I'm in Expert Mode. Hec, I come from the days of Coding my F82 using my laptop and the Esys system. It's made so much easier these days. |

I'll likely hold off on any coding until I'm closer to out of warranty and coders are comfortable with the G8X ECUs. I never like changing anything too complex that may cause issues or get wiped in a software update and then I have to do all over again if I'm getting warranty work done. |

I tried the Carly app on my friends 328 wagon (I got the adaptor and subscription as a gift) and it caused all sorts of weird issues and we wound up having to revert back to stock. I much prefer knowing the exact key value pairs I'm messing with, in what order, and having a pristine snapshot before starting. Toggling off ASD will be a big thing. I know people say they like it on the G8x vs previous but there are times when I want zero audible distractions. |

Bimmercode is fairly straightforward for doing the simple stuff, although I hear it isn't updated for the G8x yet.

Don't forget that in order to have the cornering light and adaptive cornering functions you need the laser lights, this along will be worth it to some.

Had my 1200 mile service and the techs "reinitialized" the head lights/highbeams/laser light.
No change at all for the distance on brightness of high beams (roll from 20 MPH to 60 MPH in a rural area, no street lights or road signs). For anyone else that has the laser lights, do they work for you? |

Yea, must be a new free service they are offering. I guess the finance guy snuck that one in on me when I turned down all of his offers.

Got this from BMW Genius -
"Your BMW was manufactured with Icon Adaptive LED Headlights with Laserlight at the time of production. The headlight range of the high beams is increased and ensures an even better illumination of the road. When the high beams are switched-on, starting with a speed of approximately 37 mph, the laser high beams in the headlight are automatically switched on in addition to the LED high beams. There is no setting other than switching on the high beams required for functionality of this system." Everything says they should be working, but they're not. Anyone have video of their laser high beams actually coming on at 37+ MPH? |

The Laserlights in my X5 come on very rarely since I live in a city and mostly drive in populated areas. They did come on when I did a road trip from California to Utah. My understanding is that you have to have the automatic high beams button clicked, be on a limited-access road (i.e., a highway), driving over 37 MPH and no other cars visible.

The only reflective thing was the occasional pack of deer hanging out by the side of the road at the park. Until proven otherwise, I'm assuming there is some code that is blocking the laser lights from actually turning on even though the systems say it's functional. Maybe someone forgot to hand in the paperwork to get these high beams approved for these cars in the USA so they're disabled until a software update enables it. |
