Wow, I saw Isle of Man Green yesterday and it looked nothing like this. To me it was more of an Oxford Green look with a tinge of blue in it. Not a bad color. Had a "cinnamon" looking interior. It was on an M3.
The M4 has that São Paulo yellow. Actually a sharp color in person and the fjord blue interior was an interest but neat contrast. The m4 seats looked amazing. The grilles are in your face. I have to admit, I hated the grilles. But in person, as I stared at them for a good 10 mins, I don't think it bothered me nearly as much as I thought it would. The only thing that's annoying are the good indentations leading from the top of the grilles to a quarter the way up the hood. It seems like the hood should have been flat or more CS style. Both cars had an aggressive presence. The one-off colors certainly suit the cars. I feel like a lot of people will change their minds a bit when they see them in person. |

I was talking to to the rep as I was looking at the 2 cars the other day and we were talking about the grilles. He said now that he's been looking at them for 9 months, since he drove them off a truck in January, that he actually loves them. He pointed out that [working for BMW] he's obviously biased. I pointed out that I've had a bunch of BMWs so I too would be biased in a somewhat similar way.

Having had the opportunity to actually see the new M4 at the m track days event in Monticello last month, the grille/front end is a bit more hideous in person but maybe it will grow on people...
the interior on the other hand is very porsche-esque type bucket seats. |

Maybe it's just me, but the way a car looks has never grown on me. I either liked it or I didn't. The new grille doesn't look horrible to me. But it also doesn't look that great. I can live with it but I don't see how I will magically think it's amazing a year from now. I hope I'm wrong and this is the exception where it is an acquired taste. Sigh. I just don't remember seeing a new M car before and thinking anything other than WOW.

I agree the inside looked pretty nice. They were locked so you couldn't get in there, but having driven the M5 and M8 and then getting in the M2 which has a similar older interior as my M4 there looks to be a significant improvement in the interior. The M2 just felt like 'old tech' almost like I was getting into an old BMW with the outdated dash. I'm not sure how much I'd use it, but I tried the twirl my finger volume control which was kinda gimmicky but nifty.

Timing and design - very brave
The grill will test the tolerance of even those who welcome fresh thinking and new designs The timing couldn't be worse with most of the key powerful European countries crippling themselves by mismanaging the virus.

There could possibly be many things to criticise but not showing the whole car for a partial tease shot isn't really one.
