Not what I wanted to spend money on but well worth the cost! Took 20 minutes to install. Highly recommend it.

Good job bro! Thankfully for me no damage to the car engine or anything but it had me upgrade the cooler that has a guard on it lol I did NOT want to spend that money.

I swear I wanted to call them and yell at them, the absolute WORST design ever. My guys at the shop were awesome though, I'm noticing the car temp is cooler, you can see it lower on the temp meter vs when I had the OEM cooler. Even driving the car for a while it's still lower temp readings, this CSF one Is a solid upgrade, holds more oil too and of course comes with that thick guard.

Well another oil cooler thread finally convinced me to order a guard.
I ordered the Mishimoto because it’s only $500 delivered. It’s under the car so who cares what it looks like. |

I think the Mishimoto looks pretty good under the car.
I think if BMW placed it at a 15 or 20 degree upward angle to the rear (rather than parallel to the road) it would have been less vulnerable. |

Happy to see everyone proactive about this. It's a big and serious issue for all of us.

I'm very happy with my Mishimoto and think it and the Turner one offer the most robust protection, which is kind of the whole point. The thing that put Mishimoto at the top for me is it doesn't interfere with any aftermarket lips either.

Any problems reinstalling the rubber air dam after installing the Mishimoto skid plate? I believe it’s simply adhesive, does it need any new adhesive?

No one seems to GAF about this, but if you track or live in a hot climate, it's worth considering the importance of the rubber air dam / air foil BMW places at the front of the cooler.
Air rammed into the giant grill snouts at speed needs to flow through the vertical HE/Rad as well as the horizontal oil cooler. It will follow the path of least resistance and favor the direction of travel through the HE. The pressure is high, of course, and some will find it's way through the oil cooler without assistance. To help balance the directional bias, BMW uses this piece to further reduce the pressure under the OC encouraging more air above to travel through it (Venturi effect). They obviously modeled and tested this to determine the need to improve the OC air flow given its orientation. Adding material (grill/guard/mesh) under the OC increases the resistance further, making the air dam all that more important. Now, I'm not trying to freak anyone out - this difference is unlikely to matter in all but the most extreme conditions like high-performance driving (track) or very hot climates (looking at you PHX). If you do some sort of guard that reduces the open area under the OC and delete the air foil, consider it a double whammy to OC airflow. I am not against a guard but if you go that route know that bit is even more important.

The Mishimoto sits a little lower and has the metal lip that protrudes. Would that not be similar or equal to no guard and the OEM rubber piece?

Possibly - worth asking them. It's lower but looks fairly smooth so it might be easier for the air to follow it's shape versus the abrupt vertical OEM piece. I know Mishi does their homework but have no idea if the lower position was intentional and for this reason.

Just installed my Zunsport. Took 5 minutes. Used threadlocker for piece of mind. So happy I ordered it before I even got my car! I left a scathing message when BMW sent their email about how happy I was with my purchase. Multiple references to a miss in their design and ridiclous that we have to fix their error.

All is well again. Guys what a scare lol. Even worse before heading to BMW invasion in a few weeks here in Florida. Can't stress enough how important it is to cover those oil coolers!

I understand that. I’m just saying in theory wouldn’t it do the same thing even without that?
