sooooo....$1200 later and they can tell me WHY it happened. the SA said it looks like 7800 miles of 'spirited driving'....which is frustrating as fuck because we KNOW thats not what happened. and its even more frustrating that....knowing that the car is NOT being driven hard....this may be what we have to look forward to throughout the rest of the ownership of the car. its also a bit scary because that right rear, especially, couldve blown and caused an accident.

we are keeping the worn tires and all of the documentation as wifey isnt really satisfied with the answers. and being an attorney...as well as wildly pedantic....she feels the need for satisfaction in all this. so correspondences with BMWNA and Michelin are upcoming

oh well....not my car, not my problem. he says while trying to keep a stiff upper lip. smh...

Did they perform an alignment also? That's key here.

yup. the $1200 includes the alignment. we are going to pick it up in a few hours. i guess that could tell me the 'why' that we are looking for. im actually hoping that its really bad. at least it will let me know its a fixable issue.

Being this the facts, BMW easily should be able to confirm you that no "spirited driving" occurred during the miserable lifetime of your tires.

A rare case where date mining would be in favor of the client.

With the alignment they will be able provide numbers of the current setup vs OEM and how off yours is.

Highly doubt this is a Bmw or mlMichelin issue... Your running non-stock suspension correct?

Post alignment the next batch of tires should wear better. You can always measure over the course of the next few thousand miles to see wear trends.

Keep those tires at 32 PSI front and 35 psi rear (cold tire pressures suggested by manufacturer )especially for the rears …30 psi is too low.

Hope it goes well. But they would most likely point this towards the suspension mod.

they should provide you with an alignment sheet with before and after alignment.

I wouldn't take "spirited driving" as an answer for what happened to these tires. thats BS

From what I can see, that small amount of toe diff (total) is NOT enough to deem the wear. For comparison, both tires were evenly worn to threads, yet the left rear toe was in spec... Camber was expected, but you don't have a camber issue (with wear) since the inner/middle and partial outer tire was equally worn.

Spirited driving is my take...

This entire thread must be a joke. Tires don't get wear like these from normal driving patterns. Plus, how has no one noticed the tire wear before getting to this point? Hasn't anyone checked tire pressures on a regular basis along with checking tire wear? I'm not buying any of this. Sorry, just my two cents from over 50 years of driving experience.

welcome to the thread. lets go point by point...
  1. No joke
  2. I agree...tires DONT wear like this from normal driving patterns. Hence my confusion when the wear shows up from....normal driving patterns
  3. Have you ever met a woman? My wife is a special breed that loves cars but even SHE isn't really keen on upkeep and maintenance
  4. See point 3 as far as noticing wear and, also, there was no TPMS alerts, either
  5. Thanx for your contribution

not really sure what my motivation would be to get on a thread and just lie. its not like convincing strangers on the internet will somehow magically make the cost of replacing the tires disappear. but it IS the internet so a healthy dose of skepticism is always the right call...

I regularly check my wife's car to make sure it is safe for her to drive, including taking her car in for regular service appointments at the dealership, and me checking her tires' inflation and condition. I don't know what your motivation is for this post, but:

(1.) the tires wear either occurred quickly with burnouts and donuts, etc., or
(2.) the driver is habitually extremely aggressive, and possibly dangerous to others on public roads, or
(3.) tire inflation has been way off in either direction of overinflation or underinflation. You do know that the tire monitor has to be set initially in order for it to know when the tires are not inflated properly. If not set, it won't tell you when the tires are not at the proper inflation levels, or
(4.) there was a serious alignment problem, but we now know that was probably not the case, or
(5.) incredibly, no one has ever physically checked the tires' inflation or condition of the tires since you have owned the car to find out that there was possibly a problem with #1, #2, and #3.

Your right rear had excessive toe and is 3 degrees out of spec on camber. I would not be a happy camper.
